Edgar Allan Poe wrote many of great poems and articles during his life. He is considered one of the best poets of all time. Thankfully, readers are able to read Poe’s poems and understand his life of through his writing. There are many different versions and thoughts as to what Poe is saying in these poems and short stories. We all have our own opinion and read his work differently. My opinion of one of Poe’s writing is about his poem “A Dream”. Poe writes this poem to share his dreams of dying and whether or not he believes in Jesus and follows Jesus religiously.
Edgar Allan Poe was a great poet back in the nineteenth century. Unfortunately, Poe only died in 1849 at the age of forty; there have been questions about what actually killed Poe. Many believe he was ill or drank himself to death due to his history of losing his mother, wife, debt, and never having a job for a long period of time.
In the first paragraph Edgar Allan Poe begins the poem off with talking about “In the visions of the dark night I have dreamed of joy departed”. Poe starts this off to show us he is more than likely talking about a dream he recently had. During this dream he dreams of dying and that dying for him would be such a blessing to himself. One can believe that Poe thinks back to when Jesus was alive; he does this by writing “While all the world were chiding”. For those of you who don’t know chiding means to disapprove or to scold something or someone. Back Before Christ the world was not a huge fan of Christianity and would even kill people for believing in Christianity. Due to all this Jesus was nailed to a cross and killed by the Romans. The following lines in paragraph three could be portrayed as Jesus was happy to die as he was dying for our sin and that in all Christians he (Jesus) alone guides us through our journey in
