The long road When I was born I really didn’t really know anything. As I aged there have been very sad moments in my life. When I came to middle school I decided to become a police investigator. The job was very depressing and gross but I stayed. I got married and had 2 kids. I retired after 30 years on the job. I was born on November 20 2003 at mercy hospital when I was born there was something wrong with my tongue but they thought it wasn’t bad so they left it alone. When I started talking it was muffled. When I went to the doctors they said they needed drain blood from my tongue. During the surgery my tongue got twisted so they needed the fix that to after it was all over I got my lifelong friend HE WAS A STUFFED DOG AND I NAMED HIM HOPPER …show more content…
I made a few friends but I usually did nothing except doing everything we had to do. I went through kindergarten and second grade pretty easily. In third grade I met my best friend tashawn. Middle school was a very easy time I got good grades and made a lot of friends. My classes slowly got easier. In seventh grade I got really good grades and I made gold honor roll. During seventh grade someone stole everything in my locker. 8th grade was very hard I got kind of good grades. The first day of high school I was very nervous. It was a very hard school but I knew that I would pass. The school was a very nice and calm place there was not much crime. On the final day of high school my locker was robbed again. After graduation I hung my high school diploma on my apartment wall. My first day of collage was learning the school I got to see my new dorm and all my classes. My teachers were really nice and were easy to understand. The first two years were really good to me my grades are amazing I started taking classes to become a police investigator and I was approved to have my Guinee pig live with me. Ask yourself, how was your 8th grade year… Was it good, bad, fun, or stressful? Well most of my 8th grade year was bad but the ending actually turned out good. The start of my year was exciting, but that was just the beginning. As time went on and the work started to come in, that's when things turned south for me. I started stressing about everything I had to do, I was getting to overwhelmed. I would catch myself slipping constantly and it was worrying me because I didn't want to get held back a year. I slowly started to lose all interest in all of my work.
At the outset of college, orientation, I was not so thrilled. Number one because Mason likes most everyone else was my second choice. I had hope to get into UVA but I knew my grade point average went to *censored* my senior year and it wasn't going to happen. So here I am sitting I the theater in the basement of Johnson Center listening to some old guy, whose brown suede jacket and bright pink shirt are making me dizzy, go on and on about the honor code. Don't cheat, gees that's a new concept. The night finished up with some cheesy get to know you class dance and sleeping in the dorms at Wilson. Ah the smell of stagnant air that had not been circulated in four months. Combine that with a super soft sinking mattress and one can image the kind of sleep I got. It made staying home and working at Wal-Mart looking more and more like a wise career move.
High school was not a completely dreadful experience, but I did not get a really an exceptional education. As I entered high school, I thought it would be a whole new exciting chapter in my life. I started out as an involved student, and went through all of the Advance Placement and Honor classes, and managed to be at the top 12% of my class. In high school, I basically placed myself to enjoy it; I joined all of the extra curricular activities I was interested in. I was in band, tennis, swimming, dance team, and Key Club. Sometimes I was at school for about fourteen hours a day, four times a week.
Walkinging into high school on my first day was like entering a new country for the first time. Unlike all the other kids around me I was super calm and a little too excited. Instead of sweaty palms I had shaking arms because I couldn't wait to meet new people and make new friends. That was always my personality so I think I had it much easier than the other kids.
During 8th grade, I got called out to the counselor’s office. Entering the counselor’s office, the counselor told me that I was in the honors class. The day I graduated Junior High with honors changed the next 4 years in High school. I promised myself and my mom that I would be graduating High school with honors. For the past 4 years, I have worked so hard to be in the honors program, again. I started to take advanced classes and then I started to take dual credit classes my junior year. If it wasn’t for being in the honors program my 8th grade year, I don’t think I would be as worried about my grades as I am now.
I had a good year in first grade. I became the best artist in the class. I started getting better at English. My first word was “bathroom.” I made two friends Michelle Sherman and Karen Calle. After that I started feeling better and actually liking this school. Everything felt better and worked out great!
Oh seventh grade, what a year to remember. That was actually my favorite year of middle school. At home during this time was a mess and my grades also plummeted but I think going to school took some stress off because I was taking some time to "myself" and forgetting for a while about my home situation. Seventh grade, I would say was a year of friends for me. I had and still to this day have a friend from kindergarten that I considered a best friend. Until a new girl came along, lets call her Patricia. Patricia basically took "my spot" I guess in fifth grade while I was off at my new school for the year. At first I tried not to be weird or different, but by the end of my first year, I basically gave up. In Grade 8 I didn’t try to be someone I wasn’t and I think that helped a lot. Starting high school in Grade 9 was a lot easier because everyone was very open to making new friends.
In eighth grade, my English teacher was Mr. L. He was a pretty ordinary English teacher, a little quirky at best. But what a lot of people don’t know is the lunches spent with him. A lot of people don’t know about the time after the bell rang for the school day.
As I started my first day at college I was very nervous just because of the new environment, new people, and the fact that I was living on campus. In highschool I always said my plans after high school would be for me to go to a four year university, but of course never thought it would happen. But it happened, I knew going to college was going to be the best thing for be to be successful in the future. Getting used to the new environment & being around new people was difficult, but by the first two weeks of college I felt like I knew everyone already.
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
Two-thirds of children who participate in extracurricular activities are expected to attain at least a bachelor’s degree, whereas only half of children that do not participate do (National Center for Education Statistics, 1995). Childhood is a very important time in our lives, a time when we develop many vital skills that follow us into adulthood. Some people laugh or scoff at us parents that keep our children to busy schedules. Those same people would also argue that our children should be allowed to have a childhood, to not be so tightly scheduled in their daily lives. Before jumping on that bandwagon, I would suggest doing a little research. Participating in after-school activities has shown to benefit children in many ways. Children should
These past four years have really been a life changing experience. From a childish freshmen not only at school but at home too, to a still sometimes childish senior, one who knows when and how to control himself. This school and its teachers have taught me so many lessons that will not be forgotten any time soon.
Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.
