Islam was started around 610 C.E. It was founded by Muhammed. He was also a prophet of Islam. At forty years old, He felt that he was selected by Allah to be the prophet of a true religion. He preached and spread the word. His preaching’s were openly against idolatry and of the oneness of Allah. Muhammed became a respected and successful trader. He was known from his charm, courage, impartially, and resoluteness. He was a man of virtuous character. When he began preaching he faced opposition. He and his followers migrated to Medina. They accepted his teachings and this became the first Islamic Community. His major achievements include founding of a state and a religion. He was also politically successful. It has one God who is Allah. Allah is the sole god, the creator, sustainer, and restorer of the world. The overall purpose of Islam is to the purpose of humanity which is to serve Allah, to worship him alone, and to construct a moral lifestyle. The Five Pillars of Islam were set down as the anchor for life as a Muslim. The Five Pillars are Profession of Faith, Prayer, The Zakat, Fasting, and Hajj. Profession of Faith means that There is no God, but God. Muhammed is the prophet of God. Prayer means that Muslims must pray five times a day facing Mecca. The Zakat is an obligatory tax paid once a year to the state government. Fasting: Muslims must fast for the month of Ramadan.
