The reality TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians is one of the top five reality shows being watched today. As adults may know these shows are scripted, staged, and extremely entertaining but these shows have a negative impact on younger, teenage girls. Teen girls between the ages of 11 and 17 years old who regularly watch these reality shows today believe the shows depict real-life are unscripted and spontaneous (Dove self-esteem). Reality shows that air today has very popular themes such as physical beauty, and unsuitable behavior that we tend to commonly see. These themes have major effects on teenagers today. The word "real" might appear in reality but is it really real?

For example in the show Bad Girls Club, is a house full of young women displaying gossiping, aggressive language, and also never-ending physical assault towards each other. For teens, this can be all entertainment and can also make them believe all these actions are okay. The Girl Scouts Research Institute surveyed 1,100 girls between the ages of 11-17 and 37% believe that your respect is earned by being mean more than being nice. Not only are these shows showing aggressive behavior but they are also showing young women going out to a party, drinking lots of alcohol, and also hooking up with guys. Parents or guardians can sit down with the young girls and let them know the wrong actions that are taking place in the shows. For the most part, these shows are for just your entertainment. Don’t be a sponge, soaking up all the false reality from the shows and believe that, that is really who you are supposed to be. In addition, wanting to be like someone else is the worst mistake you could ever make, being yourself is the best thing you could ever do because no one can ever be like
