As the demand becomes more and more grand, Canada has started to become the hotspot for oil. Many companies are creating numerous projects to pump oil from Canadian land to send to a variety of developed and developing countries. The Northern Gateway pipeline is a project that sees the true value in this demand. This project has been proposed by Enbridge Inc. to deliver bitumen, as well as petroleum from Alberta to British Columbia and then to Asia. Many critics disagree with the idea of this project. However I am here to assure you Mr. Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, that this project is a great idea.

The Northern Gateway pipeline project will have many wonderful affects on the Country. This project will hugely propel our economy because it would generate more money and jobs for the people of Alberta and British Columbia, and therefore all Canadians. The Northern Gateway pipeline will create approximately 62,700 permanent person-years (person per years) of employment over a 3-year construction phase. This will include 5,537 person-years of employment directly on-site construction, 17,227 person-years of employment in companies that directly supply goods and services for construction, as well as 39,930 person-years of indirect employment. At the peak of construction between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs will be created to construct the pipeline and its facilities. These are a lot of jobs compared to other projects around Canada, and this is not even the end of it. This project will generate $275 million dollars in to our Global Domesticated Product (GDP); it will also pay $2.6 billion in local, provincial, and federal government tax revenues over 30 years.

Despite what most critics say the Northern Gateway project will preserve and protect the environment. Enbridge Inc. has taken many, if not all the precautions need to prevent leaks, spills, and any other problems that might occur. Enbridge plans to use advanced land based radars to make safer areas for ferries. This way marine traffic will be decreased resulting in less pollution and a cleaner atmosphere, while the people traveling would get to their destinations a lot sooner. The Northern Gateway project will also use thicker pipes with highly advanced dual leak detection systems to prevent leaks and spills. On land these pipelines and pump stations will be monitored 24/7, to ensure the most secure level of safety. All of these plans and precautions will help maintain, while protecting the environment.

You might not believe this due to what critics and few protesters have been saying, but this project will be very beneficial to the people of Alberta and British Columbia, as well as First Nations within those areas.
