You would think that two countries separated by a border and only 1,192 miles in between would have more similarities but in fact, it that’s not always true. Although Mexico is a fairly short distance from the United States, there are many differences between our two countries. Besides the most evident ones, such as language and food, Mexico and the United States differ in time, culture, government, and many other things. On the other hand, there are similarities as well which I will cover in my paper.

Spanish is one of the main spoken languages to this day and is widely used so it is important to know or start learning! There are many reasons to learn Spanish especially if you 're going somewhere like Mexico because that is their main language. Reasons I think people learn new languages or should be personal development, access to culture gave a better understanding, better travel experiences, better business, employment prospects, and it’s one of the easiest languages to learn. For people everywhere it is important to be able to learn languages if you want to communicate, travel outside of the country or even move to a different country. For people from Mexico in order to come to America, they have to learn English. In order to get in America, you have to pass a test where you speak English, write English and other things involving speaking English. However, with Americans some don’t want to learn the language so they don’t but it only hurts them. It hurts them because when they travel outside the country or want to understand someone in a conversation they can 't because they don’t know much of the other language which is what I think happens a lot. English is not recognized as the primary language in America but fifty states have made it their official language because so many people speak it. Despite the language difference Mexico doesn’t have an official language either. Mexico, however, has indigenous language that lots of people speak when in comparison America has different languages themselves like German, Scotish, and other languages. In this country, we live in a mix culture and a mix race. When we walk out in the street, the first thing we notice is people from different ethnicities. The United States has always been the country where we come to make our dreams come true. Yet we never forget the country we came from. The languages is one thing we do not forget about our country but we should also know the English language. In this country it is essential for a person to know 2 or more languages. Regardless of how many languages we know, we all have a language we prefer over the other.
The United States has no more important foreign relation ship than that of which it enjoys with Mexico, and vice versa. These two countries share interwoven societies and economies. Although there have been disagreements and turbulence between the two countries, which partnership is without these? The Strength of each country’s democracy is fundamental to the other’s. This relationship that the two countries share directly affects that lives of millions of Mexican and United States citizens everyday. Recently these two countries have become even more unified than ever before. Tackling issues such as Border Control, Countering Narcotics, Dealing with multiple Law enforcement agencies, Human Rights laws, trade and development, etc. There are many issues that they are mutually interested in and must deal with. Yet, there are some vast differences in which these two countries are run. There are also many similarities, which we must take into account. Both Democratic Governments have similar structures, containing a legislative, judicial, and executive branch. Yet, these structures are very different internally, containing specific duties that the other country’s branch may not have.
Mexico’s problems originally began upon the arrival of the Spanish in 1492, as illustrated in Major Problems in Mexican American History by Zaragosa Vargas as well as in the video documentary, Chicano!. The sequence of events which date back to the precolonial Spanish days and take place in Mexico’s history eventually provoke the national movement that called for social justice and equality, especially after the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Then came the question of group and individual identity. Those of Mexican heritage were broken up into the groups "Chicanos," which were the ‘Americanized’ Mexicans or the Mexicans born in the United States, and the actual "Mexicans," who were the native born people which were discriminated against the most.
I am familiar with both the Mexican culture and the regular American Culture. Those two cultures aren’t alike. Mexicans celebrate different holidays. In American culture, we celebrate 4th of July because of the declaration of independence. But in Mexican culture, we also celebrate Independence Day but on the 16th of September, because we won the war against the Spaniards. Also, in American culture we celebrate the holiday that all kids love, Halloween on October 31st. Halloween is a day to go trick-or-treating and have fun. In Mexico, we celebrate “El Día De Los Muertos “(Day of The Dead) on November 1st. Day of the dead is a day where we remember all the people that have died and that holiday is in honor of them. Mexicans also celebrate “El Día De Los Reyes Magos” also known as “Day Of The Three Wise Men”. This day is celebrated for the day that the three wise men took each 1 gift to the Virgin Mary’s son. Columbus Day is a holiday that is celebrated in both American and Mexican culture. But besides the holidays, Mexican food is different from the all American food that is seen everyday. From pozole, tacos, quesadillas, and so many other foods, the cultures aren’t the same.

Speaking to someone in their native language is a great complement to that person. Most people do not care enough to learn the language of the country they are visiting. Some travelers expect the people to already know their language to the place that their traveling to. This being said, the ones who actually know the language to the place that they are traveling to, can hold a special place in the local heart. If a child grows up learning two languages, he/she will have a greater appreciation for, not just one, but both languages that they grew up learning, knowing and respecting. When we hear discussions or read articles about drug wars, killings, and illegal immigration into the United States, many of us immediately think of Mexico. As a nation, Mexico is a much greater country than these commonly referred to issues. Mexico is a country with a broad history, deep family culture, and an economy fueled by oil and tourism. If one were to visit different countries and societies throughout the world, they may notice the many differences and similarities each region shares. This makes the world a very unique place because there is constant change and diversity everywhere we look, no matter the distance traveled. A prime example of this would be the similarities and differences between the United States of America and Mexico. Although the two are neighboring countries, there is a great deal of diversity amongst them that deserve a thorough examination.
For many years, unjust treatment of Mexicans and Mexican Americans has occurred in the United States. Over the years, people like Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Emma Tenayuca have fought to improve civil rights and better treatment for farm workers. The textbook that I have been reading during the semester for my Chicano History class, Crucible of Struggle: A history of Mexican Americans from Colonial times to the Present Era, discusses some of the most important issues in history that Mexicans and Mexicans Americans have gone through. Some of these problems from the past are still present today. Not all of the racial problems were solved, and there is a lot to be done.
