My Road Map
Metaphor
The metaphor I chose to represent my life and life in general is a Ferris wheel. On a Ferris wheel, each seat rotates so that it stops at the top, middle, and bottom. These different positions are used to represent the highs and lows in my life. However, a Ferris wheel does stop spinning at some points which would demonstrate the times when the highs and lows are continuing for a long period of time. Furthermore, the top may indicate when I’m stress free and in a good place with everyone and everything. And the bottom may indicate when I am stressed and when things just aren’t going well. Therefore, each item on my Ferris wheel does have a time in each position throughout my life.

Sports have always been a must for me. However sometimes it becomes difficult to balance sports along with the other things going on in my life. For example, going into high school I gave up track and badminton but still continued to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I realised that I would not have the time to play all of them considering some were during the same season. Sports are usually at the top of my Ferris wheel because not much can really go wrong. However, it does spend some time at the bottom during the times that I am injured. In the last few months I restrained my left ankle and right thumb during the volleyball season and also received a new injury on my right ankle during basketball. This was a big bumber because I was not able to play. However, I had a brace for my thumb and I bought one for my ankle. This allowed me to continue playing soon enough without missing the rest of the season. Therefore, that is why sports take part in my Ferris …show more content…
In the picture we all look happy because most of the time we all get along, however there is that odd time when drama peeks in. I find I am not usually part of it because even if I hear someone say something mean about me, I tend to just ignore it. I hate drama! It’s annoying and pointless because you’re just going to make up sooner or later and forget all about it. Therefore, most of the time, friends would be at the top of my Ferris wheel because we all tend to get along very well. However, it is sometimes at the bottom when I am involved in drama or if I am annoyed with my friends fighting because it tends to make things awkward for the whole group.

On my Ferris wheel, I put me and my boyfriend to represent my love life. We are usually in a good place and get along, which would bring us to the top of the Ferris wheel. Even when we get in fights or someone gets mad, we usually get over it pretty fast when we see each other again. However, there are those times when one of us gets mad which causes the Ferris wheel to move us to the bottom. I hate when this happens so I try my best to make up with him as fast as possible. We have been dating for a year now so it is clear that we have been through a lot together. That is why I put us on my Ferris wheel.
Maus tells a story of Spiegelman’s, Vladek, and his experience as a Polish Jew during the Holocaust. Spiegelman’s Maus gives us a detailed look at the ways Jews were persecuted in German-occupied territories during World War II. The Jews were seen as inferior, disposable and deprived of the most basic human rights. Instead of drawing the characters as human, Art Spiegelman, in his graphic novel Maus, chooses to merge the different identities and draw each character through a definitive scope of animals: Mice were used to represent the Jewish people, cats to represent the Germans, pigs to represent the people of Poland and dogs to represent Americans. He uses metaphors which are figures of speech that is used to make a comparison between two things that aren't alike but do have something in common, in this instance animals. Mr. Spigelman strategically chose the animal characters and had a stereotypical relation to the character the animals depicted in the story. Mr. Spiegelman convincingly argues that he was using “Hitler’s pejorative attitudes against themselves,” and that using animals “allowed me to approach otherwise unsayable things” (Gardner 2011, p 2). Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Kourtney K. and Scott Disick broke up due to finding out that their relationship wasn't working.This shows that being in love is difficult and has a downside at times.The authors of "Love's Vocabulary", "My Shakespeare",and Romeo and Juliet use metaphors,allusions and again metaphors to illustrate how confusing love is. In "Love's Vocabulary" Diane Ackerman uses metaphors to describe how love can be a struggle when you're in a relationship.In line 1 she says "love is the great intagible" which sums up the idea
The title of the short story, “Four Directions” is symbolic for Waverly’s inner misconceptions. As she goes about her life, she is pulled in different ways by her past and her present. She is torn between her Chinese heritage and her American life. She never thought that instead of being pulled in four directions, she could take all of her differences and combine them. In the end she realizes this with the help of her mother. “The three of us, leaving our differences behind...moving West to reach East” (184), thought Waverly. Her whole life she misconceived her mother’s intentions. Lindo never wanted Waverly to solely focus on her Chinese heritage, but rather combine it with her new American ways. Poetry conveys emotions and ideas through words and lines. Long Way Down gives the story about a boy named Will, who wants to avenge his brother. He believes that a guy named Riggs killed his brother. He takes his brother’s gun and leaves his family’s apartment on the eighth floor. On the way down the elevator, he is stopped at each floor and a ghost from his past gets on.
The poster I have chosen contains a young woman holding a gun with a red bandage covering her eyes and mouth and behind her, on the wall is an American Flag painted on with dripping textures. On the American Flag there is a quote which reads, "We kill people who kill people because killing
Each and every one of us learns throughout our daily lives. We learn from others and through our experiences. As we grow older and become more mature, we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves as we slowly move away from following others to constructing our own perspectives on the world around us. Self-discovery is what gives us a self-realization of what we value, care and love, and thus allowing us to affirm our values in society.
Everyone has a different view on life. One's perception can significantly impact the way that he/she views the rest of the world. This perception can be both positive and negative. Perception often plays a big role in determining how one is viewed by both themselves and others. People are often judged by their appearance and their actions. However, it is things such as their personality and their character that truly define them as individuals. In Budge Wilson's "The Metaphor," Miss Hancock is faced with the fact that other individuals often overlook her. Though others may not be aware of what they are doing, their actions can greatly impact another individual throughout their lifetime. The way that one is perceived can both positively and negatively affect the way that others view them as an individual, which can greatly affect their entire life.
In the novel, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien, he describes parts of his war experiences through the stories told throughout the book. O’Brien discusses the gory detailed chaos of the Vietnam war and his fellow “soldiers.” As O’Brien gives detail of the his “fictional” experiences, he explains why he joined the war. He also describes a time where his “character” wanted to escape a draft to Canada.
One would choose the quote, “It [is] terrifying to be so alone” (p 75), in relation to “The Metaphor”, by Budge Wilson, because it explains the story well in respect to the protagonist’s emotions, is relatable, and represents the true fear of growing up. Being alone explains the story well because it shows how the protagonist, Charlotte, feels on top of her current position in “The grade 7 class [of] 1965…[and] Junior high school [with this passing]....innocence and acne.”
In conclusion as you can see the Eiffel Tower and The Statue of Liberty are similar and different in more than one way maybe its shape of size maybe it could be the fact that people prefer one more than the other who knows but now you’ve explore the reasons people may be loved or hated these monuments maybe by choice or new development
I see my life as a series of experiences that build upon one another and, through my hard work and determination, lead to overall long and short term goals that I have set for myself. There are thousands upon thousands of things that affect my life both directly and indirectly all of which have varying degrees of influence on me. Three areas of my life that most certainly have had a profound impact on me are scholarship, spiritual formation, and service. These three areas have affected me positively, and have motivated me to pursue higher levels of education, and have challenged me to set my lifetime goals higher. Though I'm not exactly sure where I will end up in life, I know that if I let my academics, spirituality, and service guide me, I will end up somewhere that I want to be.
Our literal understandings of a word are twins in constant opposition with one another, twins in constant competition to receive the most love from their mother and father. Let us pretend the parents are the literary community that demonstrates love frequently by showing a preference for one of their twins. Donald Davidson's theory expressed in What Metaphors Mean is a tragic, intellectual miscarriage; it is a theory of language that brings forth a stillborn child, a dead metaphor.
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is a classic novel written in the 1850’s by Charles Dickens. The novel is set in London and France during the French Revolution. The novel features an amazing use of themes as well as sensational development of characters. Charles Dickens and his feature style of the poor character who does something great is very evident in Sydney Carton, a drunken lawyer who becomes the hero of the book.
