A certain stigma has been attached to the effects of video games, although some are true, video games can increase mental and physical affects. The negative effects of video games, obesity, eye problems, and aggression, have been well documented, but the positive effects. are less known. Some may speculate that video games lead to depression and obesity. Researchers in the U.S. and overseas looked at more than 3,000 elementary and middle-school children in Singapore and found that approximately 9% of them were believed to be "addicted" to gaming, you could find the same thing in other countries. Over a two-year period about 84% of those who started out as excessive gamers stayed doing so, proving that this may not simply be a phase that children go through. Boys were more likely to show symptoms of excessive gaming. Predominantly, those considered excessive gamers displayed higher levels of depression and other mental health issues than their equals who played fewer video games. “The researchers also found that students who did stop their excessive gaming reduced their levels of depression, anxiety and social phobia.” Obesity, a lack of physical activity, is associated with playing video games. “Children are known to, on average, spend about 7:30” on a social media device and of those “7:30 hours 4:30 is spent in front of the TV.” Sedentary activities, playing video games or watching TV, are detrimental variables in obesity found in children.
