Utopia and U.S Constitution essay
Utopia’s Impulse Brought to Light
A utopia is seemed to be an ideal world in which everything is perfect, but that’s not always the case. In most eyes, a utopia is a place where everyone is equal, all is at peace, and perfection is met. This may be the case for some, but an accurate description of a utopian society based on its Greek roots would be a world that doesn’t exist, or is “not”. Today in America, we are used to the “guidelines” based off of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. The Constitution provides the understanding and basic principles/laws of our land. Utopia and The Constitution of the United

The Constitution emphasizes a military where they fight for their country and its rights to things like freedom, and the right to bear arms. In the second amendment on the twenty-first page of the Constitution, it states, “ A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”. This expresses exactly what it says; it gives people the right to bear arms. Unlike Utopia, the Constitution provides a military that fights with armed weapons. This military advises things like warplanes and military designed vehicles. Also in their military, people have the choice whether or not to join. On the other hand, Utopia has a devious military that heavily contrasts with the view of the Constitution. Compared to the U.S military where they fight for rights, Utopias military only fight if they think it's the last resort. They fight for themselves, friends, or to free oppressed people. If a utopian is killed by another nation, that will result in the military going in and taking action against that land and their leader. Though the Constitution provides a government with armed weapons, the utopian society supports a military who fight with their hands and arrow-like weapons (spears). Lastly, the utopians fight with their whole family, so there is not much of a choice. This is because it is believed that you will fight harder for your loved ones. In the end, if you are the last remaining member of your family, you will continue to fight in battles when it is necessary, to ensure your death. This is a topic that also expresses freedom. Although freedom and other key factors contrast between The U.S Constitution and Utopia’s government, their freedom is brought together by slim
In these documents there are elements that are the same and as well there are some parts that will be complete opposites of one another. For that purpose it should be pointed out why and what makes these aspects of the said documents which will help us understand the times they were written in. The first of the documents to go over will be the Athenian constitution as it has numerous references to who holds office and why, for an example in part five section 43 it states how someone can hold office and who can at that, along with how and who votes them into office; “All the magistrates that are concerned with the ordinary routine of administration are elected by lot, except the Military Treasurer, the Commissioners of the Theoric fund, and the Superintendent of
The Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Preamble share many similar ideas among them. One idea being the promotion of peace. In the Declaration of Independence, it talks about how it wants to split away from Great Britain, and the document says that it doesn’t want to go into war, but when it’s necessary, the colonists will have too. The Bill of Rights were the first 10 amendments and it described what the power of the government could and could not do. It was set in place, so that people knew the amount of power the government had over them, this promoting peace between the two. The Preamble literally says “promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” which correlates
The definition of Utopia is, “an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.” The rules and controls listed above and the many more that are in the book “Anthem” describe a society trying to become collective but in a utopian way. The purpose of these rules and controls is to keep the society collectivist. Fear is what runs this society. “.
Imagine a place where everything is perfect. There is a place where there is no warfare, where all. All politics, laws, customs, and traditions are respected. A place where there is sameness among all the citizens and everyone is content and happy. This place would be considered a utopia.
Between the 1820’s and 1860’s, Americans were trying new things and promoting different ideas and ways of thinking. Once such idea is that of a utopian society. A utopian society, simple put, means a perfect society. There are many examples of experiments at utopian society in the 1800’s.
This essay will show the comparison of similarities and contrast of the differences between the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the United States. Since the creation of the United States in the late 1700’s, there have been two major documents establishing how the States will be governed. The first being the Articles of Confederation, which were ratified by Maryland on March 1, 1781 was heavily favored in granting power to the states individually, and very limiting on what Congress can do within the borders of each state. Seven years later after there were flaws and the need for additional provisions discovered, the Constitution was penned, and ratified by New
In this essay we will discuss about the US Constitution and the Constitution of North Carolina. The US Constitution being the law of our whole nation as stated in the Supremacy Clause (US.6.2.2). The US constitution was created on September 17, 1787. The NC constitution was created in 1776. Overall, I will discuss the similarities and differences of both constitutions.
In 1918, while the rest of Europe was still engaged in World War I, a newly formed communist government was developing in Russia. Much like 18th century Americans, they had just managed to overthrow what was viewed as a tyrannical government and hoped to form a new nation free of the injustices of the previous rule. Both countries wrote a new constitution as well as a declaration of rights to facilitate this, but their respective documents had vast differences. These disparities stemmed from differences in the ideologies of the new governments. The primary objectives of the Russian Declaration of Rights of the Working and Exploited People and the later constitution were the “abolition of all exploitation of man by man, complete elimination of the division of society into classes, merciless suppression of the exploiters, socialist organization of society, and victory of socialism in all countries.” Americans wanted equality of opportunity and personal freedom instead of the social equality desired by the Russians. The American constitution and Bill of Rights were created to protect personal liberties and individual freedom while the Russians were more concerned with the welfare and equality of the population as a whole. This difference is partially due to the differences in the conditions leading to revolution in each country. The American Revolution was initiated by the wealthy in response to what they considered unfair treatment by a foreign ruler while the Russian revolution was instigated by the poor in reaction to centuries of oppression and exploitation by the wealthy within their own country.
These things are also in some ways characteristics of a utopia. A strong leader (president), commercials used to advertise luxuries and ways of society, and constant surveillance to prevent crime against the citizens. "She had not a thought in her head that was not a slogan, and there was no imbecility, absolutely none, that she was not capable of swallowing if the Party handed it out to her." (Orwell 67) This is much like how the people of our society follow the government somewhat blindly. People in the military are willing to give their life to protect our country, sometimes without knowing all the reasons why they are fighting. We believe that we are fighting to protect the country that gives us our freedoms and rights. However, I feel that we don’t share all the characteristics of a dystopia that Oceania does. They live in fear of the outside world, they live in a dehumanized state, their freedoms of information, individual thought, and freedom are restricted, and they conform to all of the uniform expectations. I believe that the society that we live in now, does not share those
The United States Constitution and The Declaration of Independence are two of America 's most famous documents and most cherished symbols of liberty, however they are very different in their intents and themes, although both together laid the foundation for our independence as a nation. The Declaration of Independence proclaims the United States of America a free and independent nation that would no longer be under British Rule. The Constitution is the basis of the U.S. government. It can be rightly stated that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are best friends necessary in support for each other. There are two proofs necessary to make this argument: the first being, the Declaration requires limited, constitutional union
A Utopia is an imaginary place where human ideals are established; an idea of a place that is free from all of the human complications such as pain and suffering. Utopia writing has been around for thousands of years and can be found in almost all different cultures. Opposite of a Utopia, is a Dystopia, a fictional world where everything is unpleasant or dismal. Although the social pressures in which these utopias and dystopias were created from different pressures, all of these stories share the common theme of escapism and “what ifs?” The purpose of this paper will be to compare and contrast the novel Utopia, written by Thomas more with the dystopian novel Brave New world, written by Adlouls Huxley. I will also share my opinions about these
The idea of utopia has been used throughout history, but what impact does this idea have? Utopias, or the “ perfect societies “ are not possible, and this is due to many factors that hinder the progress of a society that seeks to become a utopia. Along with this, many utopian experiments have failed in the past, showing how there are many problems that come with trying to create a perfect society, and so far, no perfect utopia or society has appeared, and it is very unlikely that a perfect society will ever exist. Although many believe that this is due to human nature, there are also other factors that have led and will lead to the downfall of any utopian experiments. Factors such as restrictions, lack/decrease of productivity, and moral/religious
Each person has their own vision of utopia. Utopia means an ideal state, a paradise, a land of enchantment. It has been a central part of the history of ideas in Western Civilization. Philosophers and writers continue to imagine and conceive plans for an ideal state even today. They use models of ideal government to express their ideas on contemporary issues and political conditions. Man has never of comparing the real and ideal, actuality and dream, and the stark facts of human condition and hypothetical versions of optimum life and government.
Altogether, I believe a utopian society is not realistic. So many things withhold it from possibly occurring. Major things that limit it are economic cost of a utopia, different opinions, and capabilities. Hopefully in my essay I pointed out those major things that logically state that it is impossible to achieve a “perfect world”. Although the facts do state a lot, in my opinion the whole concept of a utopian society is just a little outrageous. If they were to make every single human being equal they would have to physically force it upon then. If you had a choice wouldn't you choose to be yourself rather than be something the world wants you to be. There is no way for a utopian society to occur where everyone is supposed to be equal, good,
People say no one is perfect for a reason. Utopias can’t exist because no one can be perfect. Imperfection is normal but perfection is impossible.Utopias societies can’t exist because no human being is perfect. Also, kids & adults break rules all the time and this would make a society not a utopian society. Another thing is people would leave because of anger or just disappointment. No people equals no utopian society.
