North Florida has several community organizations that provides a health promoting community service. The community organization I have chosen to discuss is Wolfson Children’s Hospital. I will be discussing the following four topics concerning Wolfson Children’s Hospital; what type of services are offered, what is the cost to the client or family (if any), how is the agency funded and why is the organization important to the community? The number of programs and services available within community organizations in which provides a health promoting service is immense. As adults, all we want our children to be is happy and healthy. Wolfson Children’s Hospital relies on charitable donations with the first being made by the Wolfson Family Foundation in 1955 in the amount of $500,000. Wolfson’s also established THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health which “focuses on health and wellness, childhood injury prevention, healthcare access and community education.” Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Nemours Children Specialty Care established Jacksonville’s Bright Start Program in 2014 and incorporated early childhood literacy into the program. This program provides computer links and information for parents for reading success for our children. One of the greatest ways and organization can give back to the community is through education, support and medical care, especially to the youth. Wolfson’s participates in community health needs by assessing areas of “childhood obesity, access to health foods, access to vision care and youth head injuries and concussions” and in addition works with many organizations to educate and bring awareness to the community and region concerning different medical conditions. Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club- as a means to provide some comfort and relieve stress and/or anxiety, built a media center inside Wolfson Children’s Hospital as a gift to the families that are admitted there.
