It is apparent that living an unhealthy lifestyle, as well as eating poorly, negatively affects one’s health. From a young age it is quickly learned which foods are considered healthful as opposed to junk food. It is a parents responsibility to supervise the intake of their child's food, however there is a higher risk than ever before of childhood obesity.
Parents always want what is best for their children. They strive to provide for them, teach them, and to watch them grow into healthy, loving individuals. Despite this many parents continue to foster a habit that may prevent the goal of good health, unhealthy eating. Americans today consume too much fat, sugar, and food in general and its shows; rates of obesity and weight/diet related diseases such as diabetes are extremely high. In order to slow and eventually put a stop to this trend parents need to not only be aware and informed, but also need to take action and institute healthy eating habits from the very beginning.
Parental practices and behavior play a crucial role in children’s eating habits as well as in children’s weight outcome. The type of parenting style, authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive, parents decide to implement with their children at home leads towards the type of eating habits children will construct. Authoritative parenting style has been linked towards children having a greater intake of healthier foods on a daily basis, such as having a higher consumption of breakfast, fruits, and vegetables. Permissive parenting style has been linked towards children having a greater intake of unhealthier foods on a daily basis, such as having a higher consumption of sweets. In summary, parents and schools have the biggest impact on a child’s nutritional choices in many different ways. Parents must be a model for their children and show them how to make good choices in regards to food. Elementary and middle school is where children continue to grow and learn about nutrition. High schoolers display set-in-stone eating habits. However, there is always room to learn and improve. In adulthood, the best way to prevent nutritional diseases such as heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cancer is by simply continuing good eating and exercise habits.
With the rapid growth and wealth of information available over the internet, the number of individuals who fail to recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy weight is alarming. Another, concerning fact is the seemingly constant disregard of this data even when it comes to children. Some parents seem to ignore the warnings presented by doctors and other qualified persons rather than realize that their overweight child has a health problem that may cause serious diseases, even for a body so young. Obesity continues to be a growing problem in America despite ample campaigning. Most individuals would agree that children are generally unable to care for themselves; instead they are dependent upon their caregivers, whom are responsible to help them learn right from wrong. This would entail teaching proper health habits, including a healthy diet. One of the things that caregivers can do is heighten their awareness of the weight problems currently plaguing America preferably before their children are diagnosed as overweight or obese. It is also important to use preventative measures that would reduce the chances of children becoming overweight and/or implement steps that would put the child in a healthier weight range. Finally, caregivers should remain patient and understanding with children in order to avoid causing other health risks.
Out of the three food groups fruits were the most eaten by children and whole grains were the less eaten according to The Healthy eating Index. The ones to both blame and congratulate are the parents (for these numbers). They are the ones who are responsible for what their kids eat and why. More than half of kids from ages 3 to 6 spend their time in child care centers and it has become more popular for them to bring food from home (Sweitzer 1058). After studies were
Whenever the funds were available the cupboards would be full of chips, soda, and cookies. These are all things that make children smile and happy and who would wish against that. However, as a caregiver, it is the parent’s job to give children the best possible future and the greatest thing that a person can receive is a clean bill of health. Because obesity has negative effects over time it is difficult for parents to see the damage they are doing to their children, especially with them smiling while eating cookies and milk. Although we can understand the negative effects of eating junk food, even seemingly healthy food could have added to the obesity epidemic that we are facing

In today’s busy sociality that we live in it can easily become a habit to just buy food at a local fast food restaurant or order take out instead of cooking every day. An increasingly large amount of families today are finding it more difficult to make time to sit at the dinner table as a family and eat a healthy well-balanced meal together. Parents and caregivers play an important role when it comes to choosing healthy meals for children and teaching them how to make smart healthy choices for themselves when it comes to snacks. Developing good nutritional habits at a young age in order to promote optimal health and growth is something that could benefit children throughout their entire life. Therefore, by making time and planning healthy creative meals parents can help improve or maintain children’s nutritional diet just by making a few simple changes.
Putting children in sports, clubs, involving them in reading, dancing, singing, or even drama, can help keep children from reaching the risk of becoming overweight and obese. Parents are responsible for their child’s health rate, so allowing them to partake in more activities benefits their child. Parents who buy their children video games are pushing their child to stay inside instead of pushing them to go outside and play. Playing outside for just one hour every day will make a difference in a child’s health. Staying inside only collects more calories in the body, rather than being outside and burning calories. I started playing soccer when I was in seventh grade which helped me stay active and healthy. Sports are a good way to keep children on track and physically healthy so that they avoid becoming overweight. Parents should be aimed to help find a hobby or a healthy lifestyle that their child enjoys. Parents who don’t aren’t helping their child participate in life lessons which keeps there child focused on unhealthy actions such a focusing more on T.V shows and video games.

As well as making a lasting ,positive effect on their children’s life, parents can also connect with their children, by having relaxing conversations and learning more about them.
