At some point in each person life, they will be required to lead others. For some this can be an exciting thought, while for others it can provoke fear and questions of capability. No matter a person’s reaction to this inevitable reality the unanimous response would be that generally people want to lead others well. In order to be prepared to lead people it is valued for a person to know what qualities can be found in an effective leader. Important characteristics a good leader has been shown to possess are being caring, innovative, and responsible. First I am going to share with you why it is valuable for a leader to be caring. Although people who are seen as caring can be overlooked as possibly being pushovers, often times they can be the It goes without saying that a leader should be responsible, but there is a side to responsibility that often goes undiscussed. Kim Cameron uses the word virtue to redefine what a responsible leader should be. As she explores the connection between responsibility and virtue as she discusses how being responsible goes beyond our everyday definition of the word. Truly being responsible is being virtuous, as in going above and beyond the expected responsibilities of a leader to do the right thing (Cameron, 2011). Often times people view being responsible as showing up on time and fulfilling the expectations set before them, but inside everyone there is a silent hope that our leaders would go beyond that simple call. Responsible leaders are also people who can manage situation that might seem out of hand or unstable to other because of their unwavering aspirations to work towards always improving the situation they are in whether it be stable or unstable (Cameron, 2011). Being able to manage an emergency or state of panic situation distinguishes a responsible leader because truly responsible leaders have already had either training to handle things or they are secure in their ability to handle things that might seem out of
