The Case Of Reparation And Slavery

Slavery is when a human being is treated like a property that is owned. It is said that slavery ended 148 years ago in America. But is slavery really psychologically over?. For this assignment I read “The case of reparation”. Back in the days, slavery was used by whites taking advantage of the blacks, to accomplish their needs weather it was voluntary or involuntary. They used mental abuse as well as physical abuse as a force. Even though physical slavery is finally over and the government and the people are against it, the mental abuse still goes strong with no one to stop it.

Slavery might be over but as far as psychologically, it still occurs today. There are certain places in America, where whites take advantage of blacks and abuse them mentally only because of the color of their skin. Even though there is no rule that says that dark skin people should be treated differently, there are some uncolored people that still didn’t accept colored people fully and are racist towards them.

Most African men and women, until today, fear that even if their body is free from slavery, their mind isn’t. They feel like they are not accepted in this world, which makes them change their physical characteristics. They change themselves just to fit in with the society. Most African women and men are being manipulated by the media and societies view of being better and accepted. Mentally they believe they have to be whites to be accepted, to have a better job and to attend a better universities. ...lk,dress and act like a white person in order to get a decent job. Most black people have a way of talking which is called “the black English”. It is the accent most people around here use with a lot of slang words but when in a job interview or for business meetings that english is not used and not appreciated to be used but instead society forces us to use proper english which is the way white people talk. The way black people talk should be accepted as a language because that is part of who they are.

Slavery is not only physical, it is also psychological. Even though the physical slavery long gone, but the mental psychological slavery still exists in America. For slavery to finally end, people need to change their mind set and stop stereotyping and being racist towards colored people and accept the fact that they are equally human being as the uncolored people.
