On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) raided the Branch Davidian ranch in Mount Carmel, a rural area near Waco, Texas. The raid resulted in the deaths of four agents and five Davidians. The subsequent 51-day siege ended on April 19 when the compound was completely consumed by fire killing seventy-five men, women, and children, including the leader David Koresh.
In 1929, Victor Houteff, a Bulgarian immigrant, claimed that he had a new message for the Seventh Day Adventist church. He submitted it to the church in the form of a book called "The Shepard's Rod". In the book he points out how the church has departed from basic church teachings. The churches leaders frowned upon his claims and felt that they would start uproar in the church. The leaders decided to ban him from the church. Once he was banned he formed a new church called the Davidian Seventh-day Adventists. He got the Davidian from the belief to restore the Davidic kingdom. In 1955 after Houteff's death the movement split forming the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventists. The term branch refers to the new name for Jesus Christ. The group, founded by Benjamin L. Roden, settled outside of Waco, Texas. The group occupied land formerly owned by the Davidian group. George Roden, the son of Benjamin, claimed he was the group's prophet but was sent to jail. The group never had a clear-cut leader until Vernon Howell took charge in 1988.
In 1981 Howell joined the group as a regular member. At the time Lois Roden led the group with a message that Christ was a woman. In 1983 she allowed Howell to teach his own message. This created much controversy in the group. A meeting was called for all Branch Davidians in 1984, which led to...

A few major battles broke out before the Alamo such as the Battle of Gonzales, the Battle of Goliad and the Battle of Concepcion. The Siege of Bexar ended on December 11 with the possession of San Antonio where the former Franciscan mission, Alamo, stands. General Houston felt that holding San Antonio was both impossible and unnecessary, so he sent Jim Bowie to destroy the Alamo and come back with the men and cannons located there. When Bowie arrived, he saw it had strong defenses and decided to defend the city.

The Waco siege was a fifty one day standoff that began on February 28 1993 and ended April 19 1993. On April 28 the U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno approved the tear gas attack in the mount Carmel compound. At around 6 am on April 19, the Branch Davidians were informed about the attack that was about to happen and the FBI asked them to surrender,however the Branch Davidians did not. A few minutes after, two of the FBI combat vehicles started to insert gas into the compound. Then they were joined by more vehicles that began to fire tear gas into the compound through the windows. The Branch Davidians still wouldn’t surrender so at around 12 o’clock the FBI dropped the last of the tear gas into the compound. It was reported that a total of four
Summary & Relevance: I have read multiple article and watched a few videos on the Branch Davidians cult. The cult was formed by David Koresh after he was expelled from the Church of the Seventh Day Adventists for his radical views. These views included believing that he was the all women where his spiritual wives and he was the messiah. The Brand Davidians where located in Waco Texas and believe that the end of the world was near. The followers beloved that Koresh spoke the word of God. The group became known after Koresh’s numerous sexual scandals, wedding underage girls, and the groups arming of themselves. The Oatman’s adventure began as a result of their decision to join a new sect of the Mormon faith. This particular belief, whose followers were named Brewsterites, had its roots in Kirtland, Ohio around 1836. A young boy, about ten years old, named Colin Brewster, showed promise in the eyes of Joseph Smith, the great Mormon prophet. Many had already noticed the boy’s “gift for seeing in vision distant objects not seen by the natural eye” (McGinty 40). Eventually, Brewster’s vision of a round table lead to his acceptance as “a prophet, a seer, a revelator and translator” (McGinty 31), by Joseph Smith Sr. and two other church elders, one of which was referred to as Lord.

The cult was lead by a man named Marshall Applewhite and a woman named Bonnie Nettles. They were referred to as “Do” and “Ti” by the cult. These were said to be their spiritual names. Bonnie met Marshall as a patient in a psychiatric hospital where she worked as a nurse.

I have research about Jehovah’s witnesses; in this paper I am going to be discussing their history, beliefs, customs, practices, and holidays. I am a catholic and we have different beliefs, so I will also give my personal experience and reaction to what I learned about this religion.
