The book Push by Sapphire is unlike any other book on the AP novel list. It has a heavy topic that may not be suitable for all readers. It is told through the voice of a girl, who has already had a child at the age of 12, and is pregnant with another at the age of 16 from her father. The book explains the difficulties of life after something has happened to you, especially in a sexual manner. Also it is a story of how parents pretty much neglected their child and wanted her to live like her mother, which means living in her own filth, in a poor house off of child support checks. Not only is she raped, but her mother does nothing about it and just wants her to live with what has happened and follow her footsteps. Precious however does not want to follow her mother’s footstep and instead wonders why she has not done anything to prevent her father from doing those things to her. She goes off to school with other girls who are in a similar situation as her, who all struggle with reading, writing, and almost everything academically. She struggles with all of this, even though she begins to like school. Periodically however she would remember moments from when her father would do things to her. The author does not state this directly through anything in the book, but it could be an implied meaning that the author wanted the reader to understand. This book may cause the reader to realize that not all people are like them, and not all people come from a good background. Most people hide it behind a smile, but others may break down and have days where they just need to be comforted. Instead of making fun of them for being down, one could go up and help the person in need. Possibly a friend is all that they need to keep them going forward. Push cannot be compared to anything because from experiences there has been nothing like this book. This book shows a unique theme and topic that is not shown through many other books. Other books may mention themes along the lines of this, but they are not as direct as Push where it directly tells the life story of a girl who goes through
