A major person that the Beatles has influenced was an artist named Kurt Cobain (widely known as the singer of Nirvana). Another short example of someone that was influenced by the Beatles was Gene Simmons (singer and bassist of KISS). Not only Artists but people were influenced by the words in the Beatles music to start fighting for rights of people. During the Vietnam war John Lennon would talk about how the world should come together and fight for peace. This came up to the song (Imagine) sung by John Lennon. The Beatles had a popular hairstyle that young teen boys got called “Mop-top”. Usually young teens wore this style of hair and it was highly mocked by adults. Clothing they wore eventually became popular to both male and female listeners. While there have been many successful musicians throughout the twentieth century, none have come to define the era in equal measure to the four men from Liverpool who called themselves The Beatles. Widely considered the most influential band in Rock and Roll’s history, The Beatles have made a lasting impression on the industry and the world at large. In order to better understand the immense impact The Beatles had upon popular culture, I will discuss the bands history within the music industry, the personal connection I share with the band and the societal changes their music inspired. By understanding these aspects of the band’s music, their legacy as the forefathers of popular music becomes ever more evident.
Success was hard for the Beatles started as the Quarrymen then turning into the Silver Beatles and touring through Germany playing long hours’ day and night at different clubs and venues. In fact, and article written by Andrew Romano from the Daily Beast states that one of Gladwell’s theory is revolved around Hamburg during their intense hours of playing. He states that after the Beatles had reached their point of fame during 1964, they had performed a total of twelve hundred times which Gladwell states” the idea that excellence at performing a complex task requires a minimal level of practice”. According to Gladwell this is what allowed them to become they greatest rock band of all time. Although this was Beatles point of greatness, once returning to Liverpool they still had a point to prove the world. After Brian Epstein spent many days convincing different labels, being rejected by the same record labels, changing their style, and cleaning up their act for the music industry, they were finally able to sign a label with United Kingdom’s leading music record company during May of 1962. John and Yoko were married March 20th, 1969 and instead of having a regular honeymoon, they decided to utilize their time in the eyes of the public. Starting on March 25th, they immersed themselves in a week long “Bed-in for peace” in their room at the Amsterdam Hilton, where they invited dozens of reporters to attend and listen to what they had to say about peace. Again, on May 26th, they had another bed-in for peace in Montreal, Canada. This is where he recorded his famous song “Give Peace A Chance.” In this second bed-in, Lennon also recorded an inspirational message that helped save protesters lives in the Berkeley Park Protest. In addition, him and Yoko bought billboard space all over the world and put up signs that read “WAR IS OVER IF YOU WANT IT. HAPPY CHRISTMAS FROM JOHN AND YOKO.” These signs and bed-ins gave awareness to the cause and also got people to start a revolution of their own. We’ve all heard innumerable times that The Beatles are the most influential pop group ever. They were the first to intentionally put guitar feedback on a record, roll a tape backward and personally compose orchestral arrangements for their tracks. Their influence is far reaching, seen especially in artists such as David Bowie, Dr. Dog and Tame Impala.

The art of dreadlocks can be traced back to the Ancient Caribbean islands such as Jamaica where they were fine tuned to perfection by Rastafarians. Here at Syracuse University, students give a new meaning to what it is like to be a part of the dreadlock society without having to be a Rastafarian, a black radicalist, or politically correct. In fact, being able to be different and sculpt the hair away from the average trends on campus creates this off beat group--The Dreadlocks Society.
The Beatles wrote hundreds of songs throughout their long career and many of which had the same main ideas in them. Those two ideas seem to standout in most of their songs, and they are the ideas of peace and love. When people think about the 60’s the majority of them all think about the Beatles. The Beatles is a band that made Rock and Roll a totally, different type of music. Even though The Beatles were such a hit, as time went on they started to fall apart. Over 50 years later, the Beatles are still classified as one of the best band of all time.
