The afterlife is something that no person can directly explain. Nobody can die and come back to tell us what it is truly like. The afterlife is forever an unknown mystery with many theories about what happens to us once we die. In The Egg, Andy Weir shows us what the afterlife may be like, that it is important to gain knowledge throughout each life in order to suggest that we are all reincarnated and are evolved into gods by living through each person. Reincarnation is one of the many theories and arguments people make to explain what happens to our souls once we die. Essentially, God made this universe and everything in it so the man can mature into a god. God says, “The meaning of life the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature” (Weir). God is showing the man that it is really only them two that truly exist. Even if the man does not remember this when he is born again, he will meet God and be explained all of this all over again once he dies again. What’s the point of gaining knowledge when he does not even know that he has it? God explains to him that he does have knowledge from each life he just does not consciously remember it. The man has more knowledge from each life than he is aware of, with each life he takes a piece of it with him and grows from each experience. God says, “You have within you all knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don't remember them right now” (Weir). God tries to make the man realize that each life has more of an impact than he thinks. Even if he does not remember each life, there is a part of each of them within him. Even if the man cannot remember direct experiences from each life, there is knowledge with him from each experience.
