The key elements to describing a person’s personality starts with looking at traits also known as non-conditional constructs. These are applications of a person that are usually consistent with behavior and do not vary too often. As we look as the presidential candidate Donald Trump’s personality, we will study both his bright side (how he behaves at his best) and his dark side (how he behaves with his guard let down). This allows us to view different angles of the insight of the personality of one of the most powerful business men and now one of the most talked about individuals in the country. To examine the personality of Mr. Trump we will use the first two levels of McAdam’s model which include: using traits to provide dispositional signature for personality description and examining “personal concerns” (McAdams, 1994).

Each individual has had good and bad social traits. Mr. Trump has a fair amount of good traits that have helped him become the successful and powerful man who he is today. On the other hand, he demonstrates some characteristics in which can negatively affect his outlook from outside individuals and come off as offending to some people, from which he has to cope with. “Mr. Trump’s most defining characteristic is that he is bold. First of all, Donald Trump is a businessman-not a politician. He received his degree in Economics/Real Estate from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. In 2007, Forbes Magazine reported his annual earnings in entertainment alone to be $32 million. This would have meant a significant pay cut, had he become United States President. Currently, he is the producer and star of “The Apprentice,” which has been on air since 2004 (“The Apprentice”). He holds multiple offices at the Trump Organization, and is also a chairman of Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, Incorporated (Project Vote Smart). Donald Trump has put his name on products and companies both successful and unsuccessful, including food products, corporations, and a clothing line. Trump once stated that “The stuff that’s been sent over from China falls apart after a year and a half. It’s crap.” Ironically, the majority of his products are manufactured in China (Webley, 8). How can we expect a man to keep in touch with an entire country when he can hardly keep in touch with his own business? In a race for only one winner, it begins with the attitude and personality each reveals to the audience. No one wants their president to be rude and vulgar. Donald interrupted Hillary 51 times in the debate; he made faces, rolled his eyes, and “rocked” his body when Hillary talked. He put on his “I do not agree with you” and “that is not true” faces. On the other hand, from the start of the debate, Hillary showed her confident smile. Unlike Donald, she started the evening by thanking the host, the audience and the university for sharing its place for the debate. Donald Trump is a successful businessman who has accomplished more than most people could ever dream of. He started in the real estate business and has his own university, appeared on a T.V. show, is a billionaire, has many golf resorts, and is the president of the United States. He is criticized for many of his comments and political views. Some of these views are him wanting to build a wall to protect the United States from illegal immigrants and drugs, wanting to replace The Affordable Care Act, and banning people from Muslim countries to keep out terrorists. That is a well- known fact. His tenacity and impeccable negotiating skills are by far what has propelled him through various business ventures thus far. It is remarkable that by answering a few basic questions, a person can learn key characteristics of his or her personality. After taking the personality test, I learned my general personality type is “The Consul” (ESFJ-A). Individual traits of my personality type are more extroverted than introverted, more observant than intuitive, more feeling than thinking, more judging than prospecting, and more assertive than turbulent. My role is Sentinel and my strategy is People Mastery (“Consul Personality,” 2017). The results of the personality test offered insight into my overall personality type and its social and workplace implications.

The results of numerous empirical research studies are examined in order to investigate if, and how personality changes over time. It will be argued that an individual’s personality has the ability to change throughout their life.
