City on a Hill American exceptionalism is an idea that goes back as far as the American Revolution. American exceptionalism to me is the idea that we as Americans owe it to the world to be the shining example of what can be accomplished if we work to make ourselves the shining example of the successful life for the rest of the world. We must also actively share our exceptionalism, our ideals with the rest of the world. From an early age the idea of American exceptionalism has influenced me in believing that the American way was the primary and only possible way for prosperity. It seems like a common idea that is shared throughout the rest of the country (Washington Post). This idea gave me a tunnel-vision look of the rest of the world, almost like no other country has been able to prosper, though the rest of the world seems to condemn our ways of thinking. American exceptionalism has influenced my view on Foreign policy. I The three ideas on American Exceptionalism are similar in that they each regard the nation as a unique entity of prosperity and superior to all others. In much of our society we are taught as children this idea. A primary example would be the recent presidential race. Donald Trump Consistently talks of a time that America was the greatest country in the world. Many points in history we have consistently prided ourselves in maintaining that title of being the greatest, and we continue to value that idea today. American exceptionalism has toted America as the “City on a Hill” (). America for most of its history been seen as a nation with a destiny. In the earlier time of our nation, Christian values gave the nation an almost prophetic appeal in that we were to unite the world and be an example to other nations of offering help to nations that do not hold the same freedoms that we value.
