When discussing the adult sex industry one must understand the differences between human trafficking, sex slavery, and prostitution. An individual also has to taken into consideration why another individual would choose prostitution as means of income verses any other job that doesn’t include the buying and selling of sex. One must be able to empathize with the individuals who choose prostitution and be able to take into consideration some factors that may lead an individual to prostitution as a means of economic trade. Such factors might include; the country these individuals live in, their living conditions, education, social and economic status and various other reasons. When understanding the topic of prostitution an individual must realize that it has been one of the oldest forms of trade and comprehend that prostitution is a profession and a in most cases a choice as a means of survival.

Despite the fact that human trafficking and sex slavery have become a giant social issue, the topic originally being discussed in Kate Transchel’s article Opinion: Behind the myth of the "happy hooker" was based on prostitution not human trafficking or sex slavery. Instead of beginning her debate on why she feels prostitution is wrong, unjust or any other opinion, Kate Transchel goes off the subject of prostitution by trying to pinpoint the reasons as to why sex slavery and human trafficking exists stating it’s because of men. Finding this statement completely bias and holding no evidence of truth. Kate then continues her article with a story by a young woman who was trapped into a human trafficking transaction by another woman. All evidence that Kate might have had regarding the men being at fault is now completely washed away.

Human trafficking is define my wikipedia as the purpose of sexual exploitation is a major cause of contemporary sexual slavery and sex slavery is defined as the organized coercion of unwilling people into different sexual practices. Often the government will arrest and fine the individuals involved in a consenting sexual transaction, not really making any attempt to actually reforming the system if they wanted to. I feel as though if the governments involved in making prostitution illegal are creating a revolving door system, where they reap off of the individuals profits. I believe if the money that is generated by making prostitution illegal were applied to finding those involved in human trafficking than an end to sex slavery.
