Abortions have long been a controversial and debatable topic. Politicians and religious groups, and most individuals have a strong opinion or view regarding the topic. Society has two very different views regarding abortions. Those that oppose abortions for various reasons are considered pro-life, while those that believe abortion is a woman’s choice are considered pro-choice. The arguments that each side believes are considerably very different and often cause outrage or extreme emotional responses. Viewpoints that each side attempt to persuade others vary from religious, morals or values, personal experience, and rights. Today, abortions are still a controversial, which prevent people from seeing eye-to-eye and continue to be a heavily debated topic among society.
As with many controversial topics, abortion debaters have firmly fixed beliefs and attempt to affirm what they believe to be the essential issues. Each side of the isle has strong views, which include pro-choice and pro-life supporters. One of the most controversial topics includes the right to terminate a pregnancy. Pro-choice believers see abortion as an individual choice. The argument addresses the rights of a woman. If the right to terminate a pregnancy, a condition that affects her body and life, has she then lost a basic human right of choice. Pro-choice believers also believe that while a fetus is a potential life, its life cannot be placed on the same level with that of the woman. However, pro-life supporters argue that “life,” a fetus with a heartbeat, be given an opportunity to experience life. Therefore, pro-life supporters or those that are against abortion, argue that the fetus is human and have the same rights as the mother. In other words, ...

...ke to introduce you to this girl, now a young woman. “Hi” my name is Krystal Astran. I lived, I loved, and I choose my path. The choice I made may result in negative judgments or opinions. However, would your view of me be completely different had I not told you the name of the girl? Will you be as understanding and open minded to the choice of others? Pro-choice is not about the “murder” of babies, instead it is the circumstances and situations of individuals. However, I also believe that pro-choice is not a form of birth control and should have restrictions, rules and regulations that are strictly monitored by the government. Regardless of the views or beliefs of individuals, whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, it is important to respect one another as a person.

In America, one of the most controversial topics today is abortion. The issue sparks heated debates between people who are pro-life and those who are pro-choice. While pro-life main argument is that abortion unjustly takes away the life
What does it mean to be Pro-Life or Pro-Choice? Pro-Life means those who oppose abortion for any reason, In contrast, Pro-Choice means those who argue everybody has the right to decide if they wish to seek an abortion or not. Glenn I. Cohen, Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, argues that Pro-Life advocates firmly stand on the concept of, “Fetuses are persons and get some of the rights of persons from early on in their development, particularly the right of inviolability” (88). Christian and other religious groups confidently believe an embryo transforms into a human being as soon as conception occurs. What this means is that once the male sperm connects with the female egg, that is when the embryo becomes a living person and any abortion that takes place is killing a human being. In contrast, scientifically the newly founded embryo is not a human at all, but just a bunch of cells dividing. According to St. Thomas Aquinas, Catholic priest and philosopher, a fetus is not a human being because it does not possess language or articulated thought - one of the defining aspects of human nature (qtd. in Eco 51). Theoretically speaking, a fetus is not a human until it can think and talk. With that being clarified, the rest of the essay will first include arguments for and then arguments against
As to any argument, there are two opposing sides when it comes to the matter of abortions. These two opposers usually refer to themselves as “pro-life” and “pro choice”. Pro-life supporters maintain that abortion is wrong and pro-choice believe that it is a woman’s freedom to choose her pregnancy decisions. When it comes to the topic of abortions, most of us will readily agree that it’s a woman’s choice to decide what her reproductive decisions are, i.e. pro-choice. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is in the question of whether or not abortion is a fundamental right granted to women by the Constitution. Whereas some are convinced that a fetus is considered alive at conception, usually citing the word of God, others maintain that
Abortion is a very strong issue in our society today and is an on-going issue in most areas of the world. An abortion, for those who don't know the term, is where a pregnant female medically terminates a fetus or has a miscarriage. With the many recent controversies about abortion in the recent years, society has split in two on the subject. There are the Anti-abortionists, the people whom are against the termination of the fetus. And the Pro-abortionists, those who are for the abortion of the fetus. Even though it may seem like a black and white matter, it does certainly have a gray area for both sides. From health issues, laws being implemented, or the different methods of preventing pregnancies, there are many views from the women on this matter.
Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere.
Abortion has become increasingly common in America, even though many people such as antiabortionists are against it. The contradicting views concerning abortion are disparate and continual. Republicans’ and Democrats go head-to-head in heated debates over the topic of abortion. Arguments regarding anti-abortion and pro-abortion are addressed in two different perspectives, which “generally boils down to the question of whether the individual wants to see abortion banned” (Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice. (n.d.). The topic of abortion can be very touchy and controversial for many people to talk about. The supporting and opposing arguments regarding abortion must be explained in order to determine if it is humane or inhumane. Abortion on the other hand
Abortion is a voluminous topic today all around the world. Differing viewpoints on abortion are recognized in politics, religion, and throughout the general population. There is a small amount of people who are nonchalant on the subject. Women have abortions for many different reasons and according to certain groups these reasons are either justified or not. Everyone tends to have their own articulated opinion, and many vocalize tenaciously what they believe. Pro-life individuals along with religion are sanguine that abortion is ethically and morally erroneous. Whereas those who are pro-choice say that abortion is inconsequential and the mother’s choice is more important than the fetus. Reasons to not get an abortion include risks involved in receiving an abortion. In some cases death can occur. However, there are other alternatives to abortion. For example, raising the child and adoption.
Opinions, views and emotions run high and passion is their fuel. Pro-Choice activists declare it is a woman’s right to choose what she does with her own body. The biology versus medical definitions proclaim that an embryo is not yet a human life; as conception begins two to three weeks after implantation occurs, a heartbeat is heard, and a the embryo can sustain life outside of the womb. The laws vary from state to state and in our home state of Texas political parties clash so hard the state shakes with a jolt felt across the country. Arguments weigh in from all over the globe against abortion and none more prevalent that of churches all over the world. For Pro-Life activists, there is no middle ground; human life begins at the moment of conception.
The permissibility of abortion has been a crucial topic for debates for many years. People have yet to agree upon a stance on whether abortion is morally just. This country is divided into two groups, believers in a woman’s choice to have an abortion and those who stand for the fetus’s right to live. More commonly these stances are labeled as pro-choice and pro-life. The traditional argument for each side is based upon whether a fetus has a right to life. Complications occur because the qualifications of what gives something a right to life is not agreed upon. The pro-choice argument asserts that only people, not fetuses, have a right to life. The pro-life argument claims that fetuses are human beings and therefore they have a right to life. Philosopher, Judith Jarvis Thomson, rejects this traditional reasoning because the right of the mother is not brought into consideration. Thomson prepares two theses to explain her reasoning for being pro-choice; “A right to life does not entail the right to use your body to stay alive” and “In the majority of cases it is not morally required that you carry a fetus to term.”
The murder of innocents or, a woman’s right to choose; the Pro-Life/ Pro-Choice Debate, Which side are you on? The issue of abortion has been a topic of interest not only in the medical world but also in the political and religious worlds as well. The pro-life argument states that at conception the fetus is a baby and terminating it is taking a life. The pro-choice argument states that the unborn fetus, not baby, is just a blob of tissue and your terminating a pregnancy not a child. Both sides of the argument will be discussed in this essay along with the views of the church, politicians, women who have had abortion, and even a women who use to worked for Planned Parenthood.
People who in favor of allowing women to make all relevant decisions regarding conception, contraception, pregnancy, and abortion are known as “pro-choice”, while those who in favor of outlawing abortions, and of empowering the government to determine whether abortion should be allowed are known as “pro-life”. Abortion should remain as a legal option for women because the state government has no rights to interfere with a woman’s body; illegal abortions cause more maternal fatalities than legal abortions; and, there is no conclusive evidence or argument that a fetus is equal to a human being and therefore has equal
It is almost unanimously agreed upon that the right to life is the most important and sacred right possessed by human beings. With this being said, it comes as no surprise that there are few issues that are more contentious than abortion. Some consider the process of abortion as immoral and consisting of the deprivation of one’s right to life. Others, on the opposite end of the spectrum, see abortion as a liberty and a simple exercise of the right to the freedom of choice.
According to Judith Thomson in her book “A Defense of Abortion”, a human embryo is a person who has a right to life. But, just because the human fetus has the right to life does not mean that the mother will be forced to carry it (Thomson, 48). Naturally, abortion may be seen as the deliberate termination of a pregnancy before the fetal viability. Though people have understood this, the topic of abortion has remained a controversial issue in the world. Individuals are divided into “Pro-choice” and “Pro-life” debaters depending on their opinion on the morality of the action. "Pro-life," the non-consequentialist side, is the belief that abortion is wrong, generally because it equates to killing. "Pro-choice," the consequentialist view, however,
One of the most controversial issues in this day and age is the stance people take on abortion. The two main positions that people take are either of pro-choice or pro-life; both sides, although polar opposites, tend to refer to both the issue of morality and logical rationale. The pro-life side of the debate believes that abortion is an utterly immoral practice that should be abolished. On the contrary, abortion should remain a legal procedure because it is a reproductive right; its eradication would not only take away the pregnant person’s autonomy, but would also put more children in financially unstable homes and the adoption system, and would cause an increase in potentially fatal, unsafe abortions.
Abortions have always been a very controversial topic. Over the years we continue to fight for or against it. One can say that is one of the most talked and argued topic in the United States. An abortion is when a woman terminates her pregnancy before the fetus is viable using various of methods. Some argue that abortions should be illegal and considered murder, while others, from a religious point of view, say that no one has the right to take away the life of a person, in this case the fetus. However, others insist, that abortions are a basic women’s right.
