A Snowy Day

The snow fell from the sky, as if each individual snowflake had its own free will and thoughts. The frozen water drops covered the overcoats of various citizens in Germany. It wasn’t necessarily a cold day, but various citizens rushed from one street to another. Doors opened and closed with force and determination. Everyone was hurrying to get their Christmas shopping done. It was a good idea to do it that day, on the 18th of December, seeing as the popular toys or records were flying off the shelves. Money changed hands as quickly as the snow fell, but even with all the rush, there was still at least some kindness and generosity shown between the rushed citizens. But among all the rush and general panic, there was one man simply taking a stroll, enjoying the afternoon snowfall. He had a very kind face, his brown eyes darting back and forth. He saw more bags and boxes than he did people, but regardless, he still greeted each face his eyes had the fortune of falling upon. His hair was a sandy blonde, and it was very orderly and slicked back. It was the hair of a distinct business man. He knew what he was doing. He could convince a communist to buy a politician in the American government system, or persuade women to follow him back to his apartment just with a single nod. He was an influential man, not only in looks, but also in his country. He was born and raised in Germany. He held pride in his strong country. He was even happier to see that it was no longer at a state of war. As of three months prior to December 18th, Germany had officially signed a treaty with the Allied forces, even though the ceasefire had been in effect since earlier that year, and a general peace had been standing for a few years. The off... ... middle of paper ... ...it was true. “It’s... It’s overwhelming, isn’t it?” “Yeah... Can you still hear them?” Empress asked. “Yes... Of course I can...” “Can you hear the singing?” Chad was caught off guard. “Singing?” “Yes, singing. As in, the singing of the national anthem?” “When? Where? Right now? No, I don’t hear anything. I don’t hear anything at all, why? Where is it? Are they outside? Is it carolers?” Empress laughed again. She punched Chad’s chest softly. “It was during a battle at the end of the war. The unofficial end, that is. It was the Battle for Greater London. The Nazis still had power over that area. It was an all out fire fight. There was so much destruction we had to resort to Guerrilla warfare. You were there, weren’t you?” Chad remembered the battle. “Of course I was, darling,” he said calmly. “I ended the war at the Battle for Greater London.”
