The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires every school district in the State to have a comprehensive K through12 school counseling plan as part of Pennsylvania’s school code Title 22 education chapter 339 vocational education. Career development is a major component of this plan and it is a “continuous lifelong process of developmental experiences that focuses on seeking, obtaining and processing information about self, occupational and educational alternatives, life styles and role options” (Hansen, 1976). Too many students either wait until their senior year of high school or exit high school without an idea about their interests, sparks, career goals, or options. Educators need to help students identify what sparks their interest early in their academic careers so that they can assist in the exploration and the plan of this endeavor. After students have chosen their plan, they need to determine their area of study, schools they will apply to, dates to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) (if, applicable), and resources they will draw on to finance their education. At last, a student concludes their Project LIFE plan by completing an exit interview with two district-appointed retired educators. During this simulated job interview, students will build their public speaking confidence by sharing their resume and career action plan. Students are given a pass/fail grade and if all project components are completed, the student passes the interview. If a failure is given, then the student is missing an essential part of the process and will be given time to complete it prior to a second interview. Evaluation
