Would you ever want to be in a world with no sunlight and have the same temperature every waking day? This is what life is like for the people in “The Giver”, where there is no sunlight and no temperature. When our society has those things...sunlight and different temperatures. These are not the only differences, there are many more between “The Giver” and our society. In “The Giver” they have rules that many won’t agree with, while our society has rules and rights but they are different than “The Giver’s”. We have many rules like driving a car at 16, getting a job at 15, and able to drink at 21. We also have the rights to change our names at a certain age and you have to live with your birth parents till about the age of 18. In our society, us children have various DNA’s from our different or same race of parents. Also in our society we all have different looks, hair colors, and eye colors. THey have to be killed at a certain age and they are also assigned to a family that doesn’t even involve their birth parents.There family that they are assigned to have the same color hair and eyes because they don’t want people to look different. All of the people in “The Giver” don’t see color. They can tell the color in their hairs are the same by the shade of black and white they see. In addition, they aren’t even aloud to change their names! Would you want to not change your name or would you want to not change your name? They also assign them to a job that they might not even like or want at the age of 12-13 years old. The differences between our society and the community described in the book-lifelong jobs are assigned by the community of elders, thought control is medically enhanced , relationships between individuals are strictly platonic at all age levels.
