Many people in today’s world are diagnosed with sleep apnea or a certain type of sleep disorder that can have a fatal result if not treated properly. However there are multiple cases in which a person is not willing to have a sleep study done on them. Many will not even consider being diagnosed. There are people that do not believe a sleep study can have an everlasting positive affect on a life one of which was myself. Until I learned more about sleep studies and the importance of sleep technicians. I soon knew my time with Jackie revealed the importance of an often-misunderstood career because it demonstrated how sleep studies promote the health and well being of patients struggling with specific disorders. Jackie Webster is a veteran RPSGT having been in the field for twenty-five years. I never realized how dangerous sleep apnea really could be until Jackie had further explained it to me. Jackie explained that sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which someone actually stops breathing while they are sleeping. She further described the treatment process for this by telling me that initially the patient will come in for tests and if your tests show a positive sign of sleep apnea then you will follow up with another appointment this time to wear a Continuous Positive Air Pressure mask or CPAP. If your tests show that the CPAP is working then you will be set up with an appointment with your physician to have a CPAP ordered for you to use at home. You then will be have a follow up appointment a few weeks later to make sure you are using the CPAP and it is functioning properly.
