For my Professionalism at Work Interview assignment I interviewed Mr. Paul Walker who is the Office Manager at a Software Company. Managing employees in an organization requires the manager to possess a positive attitude, effective decision making, and know how to prioritize, organize office functions, manage schedules, and oversee daily office operations of the office. During my interview with Mr. Paul Walker he discusses diverse experience managers have encountered in the real world which included both positives and negatives. There are a lot of aspects that anyone who desires to become a manager should possess, such as being able to adapt to numerous situations. Managers should work towards making other people feel capable and powerful rather than obtaining power for themselves. Interviews offers an accurate screening of the responses that the individual being interviewed. I chose to use this interview to collect information about the manager, because it offers the opportunity for capturing nonverbal and verbal cues such as their body language. Body language may indicate uneasiness to certain questions or pass more information in support of the response from the respondent. This enables the interviewer to seek additional explanation on issues that are not clear from the reply of the interview. Before the interview, I came up with several questions that would guide me during the interview. I took into consideration many aspects of the interview when I decide what questions I would ask. For instance, I thought about what I expected to learn from the person I was going to interview when developing my questions. Developing the interview questions required that I concentrate on the inquiry that I wanted to make. For instance, the primary leadership styles consist of democratic, laissez-faire, and autocratic leadership. Democratic style leaders include their team members in making the organizational decisions, but make the ultimate decisions. This type of manager encourages creativity as well engagement of individuals in decisions and projects. As a result, members of the team tend to be highly productive due to higher job satisfaction. This style of leadership may not be suitable when a decision is needed immediately. Autocratic leadership is a style of where leaders make decisions without checking with their team members, although their contribution could be useful, it discouraged team member and can result in staff leaving the organization. Still, it is most appropriate when a fast decision is needed. Instead, lasissez-fairestyle of leadership enables leaders to a have high level of engagement and involvement in performing duties and setting deadlines. It leads to high job gratification, but wants team members to have sufficient knowledge and skills as well as self-motivated to do their duties
