English was an subject that was a little difficult for me since I was a kid. Even though I was born and raised in the United States, I’ve spoken Chinese at home with barely any English before eighth grade. Therefore, my ability to practice my English to an certain extent was altered. Systematically, my chinese improved rapidly while my english crawled slowly upwards. Thus, my ability to speak and write was obstructed until I was enrolled in your class during tenth grade. Since my freshman English teacher only taught us how to write four paragraph essays, the high school standardized five paragraph essay was alien to me. However, throughout my sophomore year, you taught me vast amount on how to write an essay. Furthermore, through the books
I read in the course allowed me to expand my vocabulary list, which then, I started to use more sophisticated words. Luckily, when I started my junior year, I was again chosen into your class for another year to improve my English writing and speaking skills. Though, that year was when I felt I improved the most since freshman year. You taught the class with passion and energy, I felt that when we were learning, you were also learning. When I walk into your class everyday, I feel energetic, the environment you supply gave me the opportunity to advance my english.
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
English 102 demands my full attention as much as humanly possible. From the first day I walked into your classroom this semester, I knew I was going to be pushed to produce the work I know I am capable of generating. Although I felt English 102 was going to be a challenge, I felt I had a major advantage over the rest of the peers in our class. The advantage undoubtedly being that I had the same professor the foregoing semester. By choosing a professor whom I felt comfortable writing for, as well as an increased comfort level with your familiar teaching style and grading scheme, I felt I would have the easiest transition into your classroom. Instead of taking a different English 102 class with a new professor who would take half of the semester to learn my name, let alone my writing style, I was confident that you would be able to pick up on my weaknesses and help me exploit my strengths as a writer. For instance, last semester you helped me to spot my ongoing weaknesses in my writing style such excessive run-on sentences, proper grammar and the use of appropriate punctuation where necessary. I knew these weaknesses were going to be a challenge in that I saw them as “carryover” problems from year to year in my schooling. You also have helped me to realize what strengths I possess and, in turn, carryover from year to year as well. For instance, the confidence in my ability to summarize and synthesize material from varied sources as well as my ability to write creatively have all given me the self-assurance I need to write with meaning and purpose.
This trimester I began the class English 101 with mixed feelings. Depending on the topic and style, I could really enjoy writing. However, there were occasionally times where I just did not feel much inspiration, and consequently, my writing quality was not exactly remarkable. My previous course to English 101 was AP Literature, where I learned how to analyze writing and write powerful papers. Although, to my disadvantage for this class, the teacher was more concerned about content than presentation and grammar technicalities. I learned to create good ideas and responses, and while I did possess the ability to convey them with proficiency, I could not express myself at a college level. Nonetheless, I can happily report that I have acquired these skills throughout English 101, learning to curb my near addiction to prepositional phrases, in addition to halting my use of coordinating conjunctions to begin sentences. I find it pleasing to read and compare my first essay to my latest one, seeing all of the differences and enhancements. My writing has improved through the trials of in-depth analyses and short deadlines, enabling me to perform my best no matter the style or topic. As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required.
The classes that I had taken were worthy and brilliant but my flow to make the essay smooth and natural was hard to achieve, my essays sounded inconsistent and odd. To add on, my transitions of the story was awkward and misplaced, but in my thought it was great. In addition, to fix my weakness I edited and read it out loud multiple times, but my goal was not achievable within the time I had with my instructors. Moving on, from this class I am expected to learn a great amount of skills for grammar and techniques for a better writer. The new and emphasized rules to a better author; from this class I want to a walkout with a fundamental of how to improve the quality of my essay. Furthermore, knowledge that I will preserve to reflect and transfer into essays of my own profession in many fields of occupation. Not to mention, I want my writing to not only appease my satisfaction, but also be acknowledged by other individuals of my work. Moreover, during the period of my writing journey, one of the most positive I had been writing a summary for a book with my own interpretation. In conclusion, I would like to generously thank my English teachers for teaching me the way of writing the essay, for this is the single most important thing that I have ever learned in my whole life. I will keep this talent with me for the rest of my life, for I cannot wait until the day in which my dreams of world essay writing to become reality. Without English teachers in our lives, there would be no live. This is true because we would not know how to write such important essays, and therefore we would not be happy and everyone in the world would most likely turn to social media and television, which we all know leads ultimately to death.
First time out of the wire and on patrol but not with first platoon, First Sergeant moved me to second platoon just the day before. This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. I lived in a town outside Los Angeles, California , it was called Van Nuys,California.The elementary school (Kittridge Elementary) I had went to was in a low income area, mainly spanish community had lived in the area I was living in at the time .I had a lot of friends (mainly mexicans) I focused a lot on being on time for school , staying on task in class, and finishing my homework. At the age of 10 was when reality start to really hit me , even though I was very young I started to see things differently.
Once upon a time their 4 girls names Lina, Quinn, Rachel, Molly is living in California. All girls were having fun at Quinn's sleepovers. Rachel, were telling scary stories and all the girls was scare. Quinn though it was a good Idea to go bake cookies and the girls went to the kitchen and bakes lots of cookies. After they were done Molly threw a pillow to Lina. The girls had a pillow fight and it was fun after that the girls were tired so they all said good night and went to sleep. It was the middle of the night and Molly was thirsty she went to the kitchen and she heard a scream. Molly went to look where was the screaming was coming from. Molly followed the scream and she knew it was Lina. Molly was calling Lina's name out loud and Lina was screaming " Molly helps ah". " Lina, Lina" said Molly. Going into 9th grade, 8th grade summer I anticipated high school to be this new scary place that I was going to be afraid of. I only knew two people coming from my middle school and one other girl coming from a different school, who I knew from elementary, but had not talk to in a long time. Lucky for me one of the people was my best friend, Khyli. I was beginning high school as the new girl, which I was not excited about. The first year for me wasn’t so scary after all, I made new friends, became friends with Briana again, and simply enjoyed life. Second semester Khyli and I tried out for cheer. Drugs! Alchohol! These two things prove to be very dangerous to the human person. My older brother was once addicted to both, but with the help from my parents, he is now back on the right track. This was only possible because my parents took huge steps in helping him get to rehab. They were heroes to me and my family because they had been so caring, loving, and forgiving to my brother.
