Success is possible, but nothing worth having comes easy. With that in mind, every successful person has his or hers own personal journey to the road of success. For example, Oprah Winfrey has been destined for success since the age of eight and has had the power to articulate with people in a positive and motivating way. Though Oprah has faced some obstacles along her journey, Oprah’s strive for her journey to success helped her to learn a valuable life lesson, provided examples of motivation, and shined new light on the definition of success.

When circumstances become harder or go wrong it is easier to let go, but the right step is to keep determination to move forward. Motivation can come from a book, city, or someone close who is trusted. For example, Oprah had two big motivators that pushed her to the next level, her mother and father. Oprah’s mother moved to a whole other state for work to provide for the family, which is where Oprah got her strong work ethic, while her father was strict on academics, which is a huge impact that helped Oprah succeed. In comparison to Oprah, I myself have a parent that lives out of state to provide for the family as well as parents who have always been strict on academics. Many people believe that being successful means being a millionaire with three houses around the world or having the latest fashion. People sometimes fail to forget that tomorrow is never promised and material belongings stay behind after death. So what exactly does it mean being successful? In my eyes being successful means being well educated, treating people fairly, and leaving at least one positive mark on someone else’s life. Also, I think it means to work with the means you have and not dwell on what you do not have. “Don’t complain about what you don’t have. Use what you’ve got. To do less than your best is a sin. Every single one of us has the power for greatness, because greatness is determined by service- to yourself and to others” (Winfrey, par. 31).
