There are so many girls around the world struggling to make it, and who need someone to look up to. Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host who came from almost nothing and created an amazing life for herself. She is the role model that so many girls, and young people need to look up to, she is evidence that anything is possible. Oprah Winfrey is a classic hero because of how she overcame her difficult childhood and now empowers people all over the world.
Despite the obvious positive influence Oprah has on people, there are others who oppose the fact that Oprah is a hero. Those people think she is a zero instead of a hero because they think she has more of a negative impact on society than positive, and they listen to what they hear online. Oprah wanted to help young girls who are in the same situation that she was in when she was young. “According to WInfrey, she wanted to give high quality education to poor, intelligent girls who embroiled in poverty” (Commey 10). In hopes to give more girls a fighting chance in the world, Oprah opened the “Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls” during 2007, in Johannesburg South Africa. Oprah is proof that women can do anything, as long as they work hard to get it. And opening the school gave so many girls the willpower to do so. “She adds that she is looking for the opportunity to change the paradigm about what African women can do” (Commey 10). Winfrey took her past and used it as motivation to help other people be the best they can be.
