What is a Game Changer? Game changers are people that have changed history throughout their life and after their life. An extraordinary game changer would be Oprah Winfrey. Throughout her life Oprah accomplished many things like creating her own television network and overcoming the adversity of racism. Oprah Winfrey is an extraordinary game changer, she was faced with hate and racism, but being the optimistic person she is, Oprah overcame these adversities. Many people believe Oprah is a game changer because of her dedication to her career while still being faced with difficulties. “Oprah’s career began in the broadcasting industry this was the start of her many years of success. At the age of nineteen Oprah got into the broadcasting career, she was the youngest news anchor WTVF had ever hired. After working there for three years WJZ-TV got her attention and asked her to become a co-anchor of their new news show. She soon realized that working in Baltimore was very different from Nashville. This was her first professional failure. After her failure, she began working at People are Talking in 1978. Her next challenge was moving to Chicago and working at WLS-TV as a talk show host. Before receiving the job, many people said she would not get the job because she was black, female, and overweight. On January 2, 1984 Oprah took over A.M Chicago now being named as The Oprah Winfrey Show.” (Lies, 39-40) Once again Oprah has proved the world wrong as she believed in herself. She endured an adversity of hatred because of her gender, race and weight this only making Oprah a stronger woman in the long run. In 1985 she realized she wanted to become an actress: “She later received an Oscar nomination for the role of Sophia in The Color Purple and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.” (Lies, 49) The trait of following your dreams that Oprah possessed so vividly set an example for troubled young teens.     Oprah Winfrey’s credibility in the entertainment industry is one that many use as a platform to follow to achieve their own success. Oprah Winfrey career started as an anchor for many local news stations in Nashville, Baltimore, and Chicago. Winfrey took over the half hour morning talk show A.M. Chicago.
