When you first encounter someone new the first feature you glance at is their smile. Unfortunately my smile was not the finest. Over four million people receive yearly. I had entered high school without braces. Once in a while I would bring up the topic of braces in order to refresh my parents memory. Time was ticking in two years I’ll be in college. Unfortunately my sister was leaving for college during that time and my parent needed their savings to pay for m sister’s college tuition. Nearly another year passed and my mom finally made orthodontics appointment for Labbe Family Orthodontics located Bowie, Maryland. During my first appointment the staff welcome me and gave me a tour of their building. A staff member used a digital panoramic x-ray to examined teeth. I could not believe I was finally going to get braces. After the scan, the staff member took pictures of my face from different angle of me smiling and not smiling. Next I visit the doctor and he did a hands on examination were he notify that I had a slight overbite and spacing which I already knew. Eventually my x-ray scan came back astonishing I had an extra tooth located inside my gums called a supernumerary tooth and all four of my wisdom teeth grew in. The doctor indicated that I must get all five of those teeth extracted before I receive my braces. Of course another obstacle had to come my way. We have all had those dentist or orthodontist appointments that were a complete nightmare. Getting poked, jabbed, and pinched in the mouth. Well, I have been thinking since I have had this experience and wouldn’t want anyone else to go through that. Maybe I could become an orthodontist and ensure to my patients that these problems do not happen. I enjoy helping people that I don’t know and being as precise as I need to be, to be an orthodontist. Though I have never had any experience at all with any of this, that is what school is for. I realize that being an orthodontist is the best career choice for me.
When our parents think of braces, a sudden image of head gear and thick metal bands come to mind. They used to have a bulky metal band hugging the entire tooth, although today that is not the case.
