Catch-and-Release Fishing Fishing has been a way of life since cavemen days. It has provided meals for many families, but it has also provided a past time, through catch and release fishing. Catch and release fishing is a type of fishing where you catch a fish and release it quickly in order to not harm the fish. It requires practices such has choosing the right tackle, depth of water, tools to unhook a fish and releasing techniques. If done properly, it does not harm the fish. Some people think catch and release fishing is not right and it’s inhumane, but with safe practices there is no harm to the fish. Fish are naturally very tough, and it takes a lot to hurt them, so a little hook in the mouth is nothing to them. The only way catch-and-release fishing can be considered inhumane treatment to an animal, is if the person fishing is abusing the fish. It’s the human not the sport, and in most cases fishermen don’t abuse the fish. They do whatever it takes to get the fish back in the water unharmed, and healthy. It is very rare for a fish to die from a catch-and-release incident.
