Growing up as a child everyone loved the movie “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and you also had younger kids who enjoyed reading the book or having someone read the book to them. The Wizard of Oz book had so many different versions to it you had the book that had the pictures that popped out as you flipped through the pages keeping the kids fascinated as they read along and then you had just the regular version that you were able to read. With that being said everyone knows the storyline to the Wizard of Oz they are also familiar with most of the characters in the movie but little did they know the Wizard of Oz has a meaning behind the story and its very interesting seeing as though I never knew anything about it growing up even now that I’m older …show more content…
Everyone described Dorothy as being very joyful and she was full of energy Dorothy had a small little dog named toto. One day a tornado passed through Kansas and ended up on the prairie in which Dorothy, her aunt, and her uncle lived the tornado came so fast Dorothy never made it to the storm cellar where she would be able to take cover from the storm what caused her to run out of time was the fact that the dog stayed in the house and she went back for him. The tornado was so strong it picked up the little farmhouse and ended up landing the house in a strange land. They ran into some small little people who called themselves munchkins as well as the witch of the north as her and toto decided to leave out the front door of the house Dorothy was informed that her house had landed on the wicked witch of the east and that her house had killed her. Dorothy had set free the munchkins after killing the witch they were being held as slaves in reward the nice witch gave Dorothy a pair of silver slippers and told her in order to get back home she would have to ask the Wizard of Oz who lived in Emerald city. The Wizard of Oz gave us a clear and better understanding as to us understanding the situation and coming up with better solutions to the economic issues that we were facing during the time. During that time if only the people knew that we had the power all along to regain the homes and bank-mortgages. As I stated the wizard of oz had a lot to do with mid-western states and the money supply. There was a very bad depression in Britain a lot of business places went bankruptcy, a lot of different farmers had to sell a lot of their things of there farm, factories started to close down and a lot of people ended up going without jobs, a lot of farmers went through a drought, although a lot of people were still able to grow food for themselves there was still a lot of factories and businesses that stayed opened and they were able to provide needs and goods for people who were indeed for them. Frank Baum’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” However, both the novel and the film focuses or touches on the same moral, it features the protagonist Dorothy who resides in Kansas the farm, along with her aunt Em and uncle Henry as well as her dog Toto. Both Baum’s novel and Fleming’s 1939 film adaptation the setting is in Kansas which is described as a small farm which Dorothy lives in which in Baum’s novel is picturized as gloomy, grey and dull. Throughout Fleming’s adaptation of Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” there are a number of differences which presents itself in a direct manner on screen as well as similarities. The variety of changes in the film’s adaptation tends to take away from the meaning of L. Frank Baum’s depiction in his novel to a certain level and extent.

Scene: This scene in the film comes just after the house has been picked up in the twister. Dorothy's house has been lifted up into the sky and suddenly dropped back down to earth in the middle of the Land of Oz. The film I select for this week is The Wizard of Oz (1939). The actress and actors I choose from this movie are Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, and Jack Haley. I choose these three because they are all unique and have an interesting background that ties into the category.

However, it is still regarded as one of the best adaptations because of its very close resemblance to novel and the use of Technicolor to enhance and bring life to the Land of Oz and the people. The film captured the general theme of the story, that Dorothy’s companions all possessed the qualities they thought they did not have.
