The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet all began when Romeo ran into his cousin Benvolio and begins to confide with him about his troubles. The issue that Romeo faced was that he was in love with a girl named Rosaline, who did not return his affections. In order to forget his unrequited love, Benvolio and Romeo found a Capulet servant that had the invitations to the famous Capulet masquerade and decided that together they will crash the party.
Paris, the prince’s kinsman, asks Lord Capulet for his daughter Juliet’s hand in marriage. However he was faced with an obstacle, in order to seize her hand in marriage, he would to have to wait two years due to the fact that Juliet was only 13. Lord Capulet decides to invite Paris to the masquerade hoping that Juliet will take a liking to him and will fall in love with him.

Romeo and Juliet first unfold as a classic comedy because of the jokes and absurd humor. It only begins to show signs of a tragedy when Mercutio died and the rest of the people began to follow after. Romeo shows many signs of his love whether if he’s talking about her looks or her gentle personality, he even adds that “It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night as a rich jewel in an Ethiop 's ear –” (1, 5, 46-47) due to how beautiful he thinks she is. Despite their young love Romeo proves over and over again how important she is to him that when he found out that she was “dead” he yelled out “Then I defy you, stars.” due to how heartbroken he was and how she was his world.
