Macbeth is the main character in William Shakespeare 's play “Macbeth”. Macbeth goes through a few drastic changes in personality and in character throughout the course of the play. He changes, in simple terms, from good to evil. Many different events and pieces throughout the play cause these changes in him. At the start of this play, Macbeth was actually a fairly nice guy. Macbeth can be viewed as a very trustworthy and honarable man, both in battle and off. The catch was that Macbeth was also a very, very ambitious man. This characteristic was a large part of the reason for his big changes in character and played a large part in his downfall as the play goes on. He had provided great loyalty to Scotland and King Duncan, which was unlike the last Thane of Cawdor, who had played and broke his bond with Scotland. It can also beproven throughout the start play that Macbeth had carried a high set of morals. He had been a very self concious man who seemed to care very much for his friends as well as for himself. That all seemed to suddendly change when he had the conversation with the three witches. When Macbeth first meets up with the witches, they say some things that will begin Macbeth 's turn to evil. the first thing they said was "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cowdor!". (macbeth Act 1 Scene 3). The second thing they said to him was "All hail, Macbeth, that shall be King hereafter!" (act 1 scene 3 line 50). The things the witches predicted made Macbeth anxious to rise to power as quick as he could. Soon, Lady Macbeth hears about about the prophecies, and goes on to drive Macbeth 's ambition even to even worse levels. Before we know it, Lady Macbeth is trying to get Macbeth to kill King Duncan, because she wants Macbeth to be the come king as soon as possible. Macbeth was hesitant to kill the Duncan, because he still had his own sense of what was right and what was wrong. One big thing in the text that Macbeth says that tells you know he will go even farther in his change to become evil is, "I am in blood/ stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/ returning were as tedious as go o 'er./ Strange things I have in head that will to hand,/ which must be acted ere they may be scanned." (Act 3 scene 4).The next step in his quest was killing Macduff. Macduff had suspicions about Macbeth being the one who had killed Duncan.Macbeth was also thinking about killing Macduff because macduff had gone to England to have Malcolm come back and take over the rule of Scotland. Macbeth ended up deciding to send a someone to Macduff 's home who would kill his family. Doing that would show Macduff that he needs to watch what he does, and it obviosely scare Macduff. This would prove to be that final step Macbeth took to becoming totally evil. Macbeth ultimately became so bad because he feels like he has pretty much sold his soul to Satan due to what he has done. This makes him think that he is already doomed to spend his afterlife hell. All the evil things and crimes he commits after this are almost of no moral meaning to him. He feels that at this point he should just get what satisfaction he can out of being the king while he still
