In one article I researched it explains why concussions need to be taking serious in schools and with younger kids. The big problem is that educations at schools don’t focus enough on head injuries and what can come from them. They don’t understand concussions and how seriously they are. They should know at a young age kids getting into physical activities at younger ages and can still receive concussions and brain damage. Special programs need to be implemented into the schools educating on concussions and injuries. Concussions can not only affect sports and balance, it can also affect schooling and psychological wellbeing. Ann Mckee, where a world renowned neurologist had studied over 100 brains at the center for the study of traumatic encephalopathy at Boston University of these 100 brains were professional and amateur athletes several of these athletes died within days of their concussions and several of their deaths were suicides. In this article they also explain what concussions are and how they can be treated. They also talk about how rest can be one of the best treatments for a concussion especially amongst kids of course seeing a doctor is always the number one priority to do when receiving a concussion or thinking you may have one. They talk about how the simplest of school work can hurt ones head after receiving a concussion if they haven’t fully recovered yet. Dr. Robert Cantu, a leading expert on sports concussions, recommends that kids don’t play tackle football before the age of 14. He also says banning heading in soccer and body checking in hockey before 14 will help as well. When it comes to the vast knowledge of concussions and medical research we know today we can’t just forget about it we have to take action. For our kids sakes we can’t afford any more negligent behavior. We have to address the questions now. As of what we know now, do we want to place a kid in any sport in which they are hitting their head on a regular bases? In hockey kids are in contact sports that involve body checking at little as age 11 and 12 even know they are considering raising it to age 13 is that going to make much of a difference. Kids brains are still developing at that age and having a concussion at young ages can have significant impact on their development.
