A. THE VISION OF YOUR SCHOOL OR DISTRICT IS ANALYZED COMPLETELY AND ACCURATELY.
BCPS Vision Statement:
“Baltimore County Public Schools will be among the highest performing school systems in the nation as a result of creating, sustaining, and investing in a culture of deliberate excellence for every student, every school, and every community.”
1. In addition to the above, the BCPS website states,
“To develop its five-year strategic plan, Baltimore County Public Schools held a series of staff and community meetings to gain input into the plan 's development, appointed a staff person to oversee the plan 's development and production, and created a mechanism for the community to submit insights and ideas via the school system 's Web site.”
One of the characteristics of a powerful vision statement is that all stakeholders share the vision. Through the county’s staff and community meetings they ensured that all interested parties had the opportunity to voice their wishes for the district as a whole. Furthermore, they went above and beyond by creating a venue where stakeholders could submit “insights and ideas” on their website.
Additionally, the statement itself should outline exactly what the district needs to become in order to accomplish its purpose. This vision statement says that the district will become one of the highest performing school systems in the nation. Being a mathematical/logical thinker leads to the thought that they could have been even more specific, perhaps saying that the district would become one of the top 5 or top 10 in the nation. However, the vision that the district becomes one of the highest feels compelling enough to demand attention and specific enough to be measurable.
