The world is shrinking. The technical term for this change is “Globalization.” Distance is becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing day. A neurosurgeon in the United States can direct a real-time brain surgery halfway around the world, in India, via a camera and a monitor. The modern era is one that is dominated by a growing technology industry. People have devices in their pockets with more computing power than that which was required to land a man on the moon. The internet can connect practically anyone anywhere with anyone else anywhere else, as long as they have semi-decent reception. Technology is improving in nearly exponential leaps and bounds, and with this growth comes new forms of communication and, consequentially, commerce. The Foundation of E-Commerce The term ‘e-commerce’ basically means ‘business on the internet.’ It is has been developing since, or nearly since, the dawn of the online age. The first of the four is Virtual Merchants. A Virtual Merchant generates all or nearly all of it’s profits using websites. However, what a Virtual Merchant saves by not having a physical location, they could easily lose if they don’t grow quick enough. Any company that wants to run entirely on the web needs plenty of advertising, among other things, to get going. Most shoppers already have sites that they are familiar with which they will use primarily, and only 5-20% of shoppers will be switched to a new site (Morrison, 2014). Any Virtual Merchant needs to be a solid business from the get-go, with easy and fluid accessibility and userability, as well as sufficient and consistent customer
Imagine an older, online business where everyone was happily buying and selling from it. People are auctioning off valuables and goods while buying a range of items for a cheaper price. It stays this way on the same black and white website to this very day. EBay has been around since it was “Formed as a sole proprietorship in September 1995," via California. Its platform is meant to allow buyers and sellers with internet access to connect globally. It determines its success by the success of the people buying and selling through it. Unfortunately, today more people are choosing other online sellers. These competitors, similar to eBay, have bolder advertisements, offer well-matched bargains, as well

The 21st century is the era of technology and modernization. Through extremely efficient and rapid communication systems, businesses are being conducted across the globe from one single point of command and coordination. Through strong and reliable networks, it is very easy for a person to be in one corner of the world in the morning and in the other corner in the evening. Processes are becoming more and more effective and efficient and the world is coming closer as if it were a global village. This phenomenon is called globalization.

EBay was founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995. The purpose of Auction Web, now name eBay, was to sale online goods for individual buyers and sellers. After spending the weekend writing codes on his personal computer, Mr. Omidyar launches the website, the site was “dedicated to bringing together buyers and sellers in an honest and open marketplace”(EBay Inc, 2013) . By July 1996, Mr. Omidyar quits his job to be dedicated full time to his auction website. He then brought Jeff Skoll as president of the company. EBay could counteract this problem by implementing a strategy where eBay would have the authority to terminate a user’s account if their rating in percentage dropped below 60%. This strategy may help the organisation to reduce the amount of unreliable seller resulting in a much more safer and reliable market platform where people would be able to purchase products at ease without any hassle.
