After the Second World War, the US and UN should have taken the pre-violence prevention measures to prevent the deadly growth of the conflict but instead, US sort of took position with Israel at the early stage, this was one of the great spoilers that prolonged the conflict. This can be seen in the US use of veto power in the UN Security Council in favour of Israel’s actions in the Palestine territory which includes major parts of Jerusalem.
In the light of these, the US foundational basis for mediation in the conflict took the path of “COERCION” against Palestine which is why one can only speak of little success (at least a cease fire) situation in the conflict today.
Two states solution have been discussed by Saudi Arabia and US leaders in 2002. In 2007 poll in Gaza Strip and West Bank, 46.7% responded in favour of two state solution and 26.5% for a binational (having two nations under one government) state. In November 2007, Israel, Palestine Liberation Organization and the US agreed on a tow state solution as the new basis for negotiations.
Coercion and Hard Mediation Analysis
The prolonged peace talks and the failed outcomes, partly depended on the individuals in power, over the years of the conflict, the goals of the US in the issue and the Middle East as a whole was to contain, democratize and liberalize the region. This sort of affected the mediation role of the US; thus leading to hard mediation measures which could be seen during President Bush’s administration.

... political societies of the Middle East. And these are problems explained by the World System Theory which divides the world into CORE, SEMI-PERIPHERY and PERIPHERY countries. In the light of these, the countries in these region must accept one another before the spirit of coexistence spread.
Despite the fact that Israel took advantage of the conflict and the US unconditional support and went on to steal US’s nuclear information, US did not get furious over this. This because, more to religion and ties, US considers Israel as a strategic partner through which it can actualize some of its goals in the region, just as Turkey is also strategically important to the US. This strategic partnership helped US to get involve in the Iraq (Saddam Hussein’s regime) and Iran’s assumed nuclear weapon building.
