Introduction

This day and age people are living longer with respect to various factors, for example, technology and evidence based practice which guide practices, in order to deliver safe and effective health care. However, many young adults are developing diseases that were once confined to adults. The prevalence of childhood obesity is rising and so is the steady incline of comorbidities in young adults. Education is perhaps one of the best options that can either control or prevent the rising rates of childhood obesity. The presentation was taught at a local recreation center where there are programs for people of all ages. My intended audience was adolescents, because they need to be educated about childhood obesity and health issues it may cause. This can prevent or control the obesity rates and in turn reduce cormorbidities that are associated with obesity.

Teaching Development Preparation

The teaching project was to developed to educated adolescence about the rising obesity rates and the health issues that can arise. I needed to gather material about the subject matter that I knew they needed to be aware of. The information had to be formatted so that the teaching was understood to ensure that effective teaching took place. Then, I incorporated some learning interactive activities so that the information was retained and so that it kept their interest. One of the interactive activities was the most effective intervention that empowered the group to change their behavior. The activity involved guessing which foods belonged to the different food groups and guessing the calories they thought it contained in them. All the participants were very eager to answer the questions and when some of the questions they answered were wrong, they were interested in understanding why. I felt that effective learning was taking place.

Some barriers I faced while I was preparing the teaching project was trying to word the project so that the group could understand it. In addition, I had problems with trying to avoid giving to much information because I didn't want them to become disinterested. The developmental characteristics of the respective group helped me format the project suitable for learning and relevant to the participants. This was done so that effective teaching was done. Changes that I would consider if i had to do it again would be to post signs prior to the presentation so that perhaps more people would come and join.
