“Sky’s the limit” he always says. This is by far my Uncle Richie’s favorite sayings and motto’s. My uncle is a very determined man, with many goals and aspirations. He is the type of guy that will do whatever is necessary to provide for his family and friends (a rare find these days). The job type never mattered to him if he had to shovel for days on end, he would. The nor’easter storms were no match for him, he suited up - packed a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and off he went. He was a very strong man in our eyes which is probably the reason he decided to join the military. He served in the Navy for eight years and just recently became a Firefighter. He is all about discipline, structure, goals and obtaining those goals, and he makes sure that all of the family is aware that they too can reach for the stars and do whatever they want it just takes a little bit of hard work. He’s the youngest of eight children, so he never really knew what it felt like to have new electronics, or clothing. Everything was handed down from each sibling until it finally got to him and by that time it was severely worn that it embarrassed him. He grew tired of this routine and decided he would seek odd jobs around the neighborhood. He found that he became quite popular around the neighborhood for doing odd jobs with quality deliverance. By the next year all of the neighbors were seeking him out. After working and saving money he was finally able to buy himself new clothes, electronics, whatever he or his family wanted he got! “Hard work pays off” he would always say, and since he’s never stopped giving his all too any job he held. Once he graduated from high school, he decided to join the Navy. After the September 11, 2001, attacks agai... ... middle of paper ... ...e realized his closest friend was badly injured and clinging to life. He immediately began helping any and every one he could and as a result he was able to get many men out of danger and bring many of them to safety. Luckily for his friend, he knew about ligature and how to stop arterial bleeding. My uncle stopped his bleeding, kept him alert and responsive until the medical team arrived. He survived and it was because of my uncle saved his life. After his term with the military, he decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his live saving the lives of others. Which sparked in interest in becoming a firefighter. Luckily his experience with the military gave him an upper hand during his recruitment process, and it only to took him a year before he officially began the Fire Academy. My uncle continues to display how the sky is the limit, and why is my unsung hero.
