In Zimbabwe, the biggest conflicts Darling faced were hunger and poverty. However, in the U.S., Darling’s major conflicts were based on adapting to a new country, new family, new friends, and constantly home sick. She grows to see her home and its people differently because of how she is living in the U.S. She grows to see the U.S. differently because in Paradise it was completely different and in the U.S she has everything that she didn’t have in Paradise. It’s not only leaving your country it’s also starting from the bottom, learning how to speak a different language, to dress, to have manners, and education. Also adapting to a new family learning how they are and tried to adjust to their life style. Even dough deep inside you can miss home and your immediate family, this new country is giving you a second chance and the opportunities that you didn’t have in your Country and also the chance to become someone to attend College. This passage reflects how writer, Dagoberto Gilb, in his short story, “Uncle Rock,” sets a tone of displeasure in Erick’s character as he writes a story about the emotions of a child while experiencing his mother’s attempt to find a suitable husband who can provide for her, and who can become a father to him. Erick’s quiet demeanor serves to emphasis how children may express their feelings of disapproval. By communicating through his silence or gestures, Erick shows his disapproval towards the men in a relationship with his mother as he experiences them.
Enrique, someone who has hands on experience with this, went to the United States to find his mother and start a new life with her. Enrique was very sad leaving his old life behind. He had a girlfriend, Maria Isabel, whom he loved very much and later he found that Maria Isabel was pregnant with their daughter. At a time when her cousin’s friends come over, Kambili “wanted to talk with them, to laugh with them so much...but my (her) lips held stubbornly together… and did not want to stutter, so I (she) started to cough and then ran out and into the toilet” (Adichie 141). Moving from the poorest town to now living in the richest town was something Jacinto had a hard time adapting to. Jacinto missed his friends and family. The kids in the new town often laughed at him and frequently called him names. Jacinto started to hate Carlos and blamed him for everything, which included, making his mother sin and taking him from his friends and family. When Jacinto was thirteen he got into an altercation with kids from school that was again, making fun of him. This time Jacinto had enough and punched one of the kids in the face. The fight was broken up and Jacinto was seen as the trouble maker, because of his prior status of being poor. When Carlos heard of the fight he started to yell at Jacinto and began calling him names, while never letting Jacinto plead his side of the story. Jacinto became so angry that Carlos wasn’t listening to him that all the built up anger just came out, all at once. Jacinto picked up a glass a smashed it against Carlos face and then began to kick him when Carlos fell down. Jacinto kicked him so many times that Carlos began to spit up blood. To understand fully the implicit meaning and cultural challenges the film presents, a general knowledge of the film’s contents must be presented. The protagonist, Tita, suffers from typical Hispanic cultural oppression. The family rule, a common rule in this culture, was that the youngest daughter is to remain unwed for the duration of her mother’s life, and remain home to care for her. Mama Elena offers her daughter, Tita’s older sister Rosaura, to wed a man named Pedro, who is unknowingly in mutual love with Tita. Tita is forced to bake the cake for the wedding, which contains many tears that she cried during the process. Tita’s bitter tears cause all the wedding guests to become ill after consuming the cake, and Tita discovers she can influence others through her cooking. Throughout the film, Tita’s cooking plays an important role in all the events that transpire.
The mother is a selfish and stubborn woman. Raised a certain way and never falters from it. She neglects help, oppresses education and persuades people to be what she wants or she will cut them out of her life completely. Her own morals out-weight every other family member’s wants and choices. Her influence and discipline brought every member of the family’s future to serious-danger to care to her wants. She is everything a good mother isn’t and is blind with her own morals. Her stubbornness towards change and education caused the families state of desperation. The realization shown through the story is the family would be better off without a mother to anchor them down.
Moving far away from family and friends can be tough on a child at a young age. It has its pros and cons. One learns how to deal with moving away from the people they love and also learn how to deal with adjusting to new ways of life. Everything seems so different and at a young age one feels like they have just left the whole world behind them. That was an experience that changed my life as a person. It taught me how to deal with change and how to adjust. It developed me from a young boy into a mature young man.

It was a beautiful, sunny day in South Florida. I was six years old, playing by the pool with my new puppy. I loved swimming in the pool almost every day after school. I also enjoyed going out on our boat after school or crossing the street and going to the beach. My father came home one evening with some interesting news. Now, I do not remember exactly how I felt about the news at that time, but it seemed like I did not mind that much. He had announced that we were going to move back to my birth country, Belgium. I had been living in Florida for five years and it was basically all I had known so I did not know what to expect. I had to live with my mom at first, and then my sister would join us after she graduated high school and my father finished settling things. I remember most of my earlier childhood by watching some old videos of me playing by the pool and dancing in the living room. It seemed like life could not get any better. However, I was excited and impatient to experience a new lifestyle. I realized that I could start a whole new life, make new friends and learn a new language. Belgium was not as sunny as South Florida but it has much better food and family oriented activities. Geographic mobility can have many positive effects on younger children, such as learning new languages, being more outgoing, and more family oriented; therefore, parents should not be afraid to move around and experience new cultures.

According to the Oxford dictionary, Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. In the last few years, a lot has changed with the Immigration policy in the United States. According to American Immigration Council (AIC), the body of law governing current immigration policy, provides for an annual worldwide limit of 675,000 permanent immigrants, with certain exceptions for close family members (AIC, 2014). Everyone has different opinions about the change, but I am more interested in the reason behind why people migrate to United
