Intro/Thesis - Suicide is at an alarming increasing rate. However, this matter continues to remain a stigmatic topic. Unless there is more awareness and prevention, suicide will continue to rise.
Statistics
According to the Center for Control of Disease and Prevention, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States of America. Researchers at the CDC National Center for Health Statistics claim suicide rates have increased since 1999 in everyone from pre-teens to the elderly. Suicide is the second most leading cause of death between the ages of ten to thirty four. Every year thereafter, suicide rates began to steadily increase. A big increase with suicide has show to come from teenage bullying. Eight percent of high school students have attempted suicide and over fifteen percent have considered it. Furthermore, the CDC reports that for every suicide a teen commits, there at least 100 other attempts. These types of bullying may seem like childs-play, but could cause a major emotional stress on a teen, increasing the risk of suicidal behavior. These types of bullying can occur from cyber-bullying, physical bullying, emotional bullying, spreading rumors, or texting.
Sally C. Curtin’s report, Suicide Rates for Females and Males by Race and Ethnicity: United States, 1999 and 2014, state that female suicide of all ages has increased by forty-five percent by 2014 and increased sixteen percent by males. Comparatively, suicide methods by firearm, suffocation, and poisoning have dramatically increased during these years, with the largest ethnic group being American Indians and Alaskan Natives. ...knew I 'd never be able to live my life as I wanted. I became the butt of everyone 's jokes, humiliated and picked on daily. My depression grew more and more ever day. I knew if I acted on my feelings I 'd be ridiculed. I felt there was no other alternative but to find an escape. Every day I became more and more depressed.
In brief, what Escobar describes is what the majority of people struggling with their sexuality go through. As told above, being understood and acceptance by family and friends is something we all value, regardless of sexual orientation. Furthermore, rejecting and isolating someone will drive them into depression and embarrassment. Among American civilians, whites have historically and significantly led the way in the rates of suicides. Although leveling off after the 1990’s, the rate of white suicides has still been almost twice as much as minority groups. It has also been shown that males commit suicide significantly more than females.

Suicide is immoral because it is said to taint your soul. Numerous side effects from it can help you understand why it is wrong. Families and friendships are torn apart by the destructive acts. Understandably, people considering killing themselves aren’t immoral because at that point you’re able to go get help and tell someone how you’re feeling. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in teens. Most teens commit suicide mainly because of bullying which pushes teens over the edge; because they believe what their peers say about them. Studies show that more teens are dying in this generation than any other generation due to suicide. Suicide is a sad story many people are reluctant to approach. But when somebody nearest to them kills themselves, they feel the compelling guilt of trying to understand the motive behind the death. It is a complex and rather devastating subject. Many who kill themselves can never come back to tell us what happened and why it did. Suicide takes an emotional toll on it's survivors and wreck havoc in the wake of the surrounding victims. What causes suicide is a probing series of many theories, and yet not one definitive answer. The prevention of suicide is also difficult to pinpoint, but only because the intent is unknown. The importance of researching the motives of the suicidal is essential to modern humanity as a whole, because in the era we live in, suicide rates are climbing faster than ever. Understanding the driving force behind suicide is what can help the field of social science to save the conscience mind of many people from self-destruction - and save their lives, and the emotions of their loved ones.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds, and the sixth leading cause for 5 to 14 year olds. Suicide accounts for twelve percent of the mortality in the adolescent and young adult group. Young males are more common than young woman suicides. These are only children who followed through with the suicide. For every successful suicide there are fifty to one hundred adolescent suicide attempts. In other words, more than five percent of all teenagers tried to commit suicide, and the number is still rising. It is scary to think that four percent of high school students have made a suicide attempt within the previous twelve months. In a small safe town like Avon, in the Avon High School where you and I practically live, you can see the faces of 22 students that have tried to commit suicide. That is enough to fill a classroom.
Now the eighth-leading cause of death overall in the U.S. and the third-leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years, suicide has become the subject of much recent focus. U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, for instance, recently announced his Call to Action to Prevent Suicide, 1999, an initiative intended to increase public awareness, promote intervention strategies, and enhance research. The media, too, has been paying very close attention to the subject of suicide, writing articles and books and running news stories. Suicide among our nation’s youth, a population very vulnerable to self-destructive emotions, has perhaps received the most discussion of late. Maybe this is because teenage suicide seems the most tragic—lives lost before they’ve even started. Yet, while all of this recent focus is good, it’s only the beginning. We cannot continue to lose so many lives unnecessarily.
Too many adults seem to think that bullying is just part of being a kid, but it isn’t, and it has a negative and sometimes long lasting effect on others. Bullying Statistics show that “Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.” What some people do not realize is that there are many different types of bullying that include physical bullying, emotional bullying, sexting, and cyberbullying. There are many warning signs of suicide. Depression, interest in death or dying, engaging in harmful activities (e.g. substance abuse, reckless behavior, and self-injury), giving away personal possessions, saying goodbye to people, and making comments about how life would be better off without them.
