Recommended: Character of revenge in literature

The short story spunk wwas written by zora neal hurston was based on guilt and revenge in witch the characters were face with much conflict and discouragement zora was born in 1891 originally from notaslelga alabama and moving to eatonville fla, she naturally picked up her stories from neighborhood gossip. the story spunk was a short about a man fooling around with another married mans wife . zora didnt like the fact that spunk wanted to marry lena . lena was already married to a man named joe . lena didnt care about joe even though joe loved her and wanted to get his wife back zora grew up in a pridefull home were she believed in speaking up for herself many of her short stories and writing styles were much influenced by events that took …show more content…

zora actually had alot of revenge on her mind witch was describe eariler. in the story spunk has guilt and revenge, the character joe was a person who was full of revenge, espically when the towns people were making fun of him and laughing behind his back. the language in the short story "spunk" made the reader feel as though they were apart of the coummunity, during that day and age that the short story was being written zora was using southern black dialect . to many readers like myself may have not understood the story dialogue . if she had any critics, it maybe because of the type of language she was using. to others the language may help explain why voodoo was one of the possible outcomes of the short story spunk. spunk the short story has a veriety of characters, that include murders, hypocrites. in the story" spunk" spunk was well known because he was tall brown skinned man who wasnt afriad of anything. this is a point where zora is showing her pridefullness, and undeceive beliefs. it was said that lena and spunk were getting married. many didnt believe that spunk was the marrying type yet spunk has grown tired of people talking about lena. here is where zora inlcudes how the treatments from her stepmother and being driven away from her home. made her feel as though nobody should remarry. zora was very angry about it. later thier was talk of this black bobcat around lena and spunk house. the black bobcat howled, spunk goes to get his gun to shoot it, but the black bobcat looks him square in the eyes. it makes spunk very nervous. zora wants to get revenge so this her way of saying that revenge will be mine. im not afriad of you any more. spunk clearly says that this black cat is joe from hell . the crowd now feels guilty about how they percieved joe, and mistreated him, and realize joe was braver. zora is trying to let the reader know that eventully courage will be seen ,in a person one way or another. soon spunk dies on the saw mill and as he lay dying he says that joe pushed him. lena is upset and most likey is remorsefull about the whole

His anger "rose /murderously in his throat." Because "murderously" begins on a new line, a greater emphasis is placed on it and its evil and destructive connotations. An image of a growling lion stalking its prey is evoked in the reader, as it threateningly snarls from its throat. The girl is terrified as it preys on her persistently "throughout the night." Furthermore, because there is no punctuation, these few lines are without a rest, and when reading out aloud, they cause breathlessness. This suggests that the father's "righteous" fury is ceaseless and suffocating the girl.

She basically told Walter that she didn’t want him and regretted having him. She neglects Walter of attention and love, just as she was by her parents. Both Walter and his mother are dealing with issues of neglect and a craving for attention. As a prostitute, we see on page three in chapter six Walter’s mother substitutes sex for love, attention, beauty, and care. She begs her male friend to stay, "Oh baby, please, listen. he’s kinda backwards. Please don’t get mad."
