First of all, I would let her know that I am here to help and support her. I would ask her to evaluate her classroom environment, and classroom management; and consider making some changes. Classroom environment plays a big role in a student’ s education. If children feel safe, comfortable, welcome, can express themselves, and enjoy being in you classroom, then they are more likely to have a better learning experience. They will be open to try new things, participate and communicate with the teacher and their peers. As a teacher, all of your students should feel like they are a part of the class; regardless of social economic status, cultures, or disabilities. She can avoid discipline problems by having a well-organized learning environment. Just like the teacher has a role, her students should have roles as well. She can provide each student with a classroom job, have a safe place, and make sure materials are organized so that students can be autonomous. My co-worker can also teach her students transitions. Transitions will help students to move smoothly from one activity to another. Teachers can also use attention getters to get students attention without having to yell or raise her voice. Transitions, attention getters, student roles in the classroom all need to be taught. B.F. Skinner believed in the Behaviorism Theory, which meant that students could be conditioned to learn a new behavior. In this case, it would be to learn their roles in the classroom, and know what to do during a transition or attention getter. Classroom management and classroom environment play big roles in the classroom. How I set up my classroom and manage it will make a difference in my student’s academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. Classroom environment involves the physical set up of the room as well the atmosphere. Children need to feel that they are welcomed and safe in a classroom. Classroom management involves teaching student’s their roles and routines in the classroom. 7. The TEKs and Pre-k guidelines are what the state recommends students should learn. We plan lessons and LCAs with the TEKs and Pre-k guidelines in mind. I will be using them throughout my teaching career. I have learned how to unpack a TEK so that I may teach the appropriate content that the state is looking for. 8. Transitions and attention-getters are a great asset to making a smooth transition from one thing to the next. They need to be taught to children at the beginning of the year so that children know what to do when they hear a transition or attention-getter. 9. John Piaget developed the Constructivist Theory.
