Cannibalism, the nonconsensual consumption of another human's body matter. In the United States there are no laws against cannibalism, but it violates laws against murder and desecration of corpses. Cannibalism is not considered to be a felony, but is socially unacceptable. In some societies, especially tribes, cannibalism is a cultural norm. In most parts of the world cannibalism is not accepted. Although cannibalism can be a controversial top, few people know the psychology behind it.
There have been those lone individuals who find eating people absolutely satisfying. They do it because they enjoy it, they have psychopathic personalities, and they are extremely lonely. Some cannibals are psychotic. There are other theories that suggest cannibalism to be a sexual disorder and even an eating disorder. A common characteristic among many cannibals is that many of them have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or some other form of personality disorder. Cutting up the meat is sexually exciting, according to cannibals. Feeling the flesh brought many offenders to orgasm. The reason why they enjoy the removal of the skin from the skeleton results in the fact that they want to feel powerful and capable of doing something very few people have ever done. Even most serial killers do not eat their victims. So the cannibal is in the class by himself. This produces a euphoric state which activates the pleasure center in the brain. On all fifteen counts, Dahmer was found guilty and sane. He was sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms or a total of 957 years in prison. In my opinion, I believe that Dahmer’s case is considered to be sexual and ritualistic cannibalism. Jeffrey Dahmer had sex with the corpse; he also believed that when he consumed his victims, they spiritually became a part of them. They also believed that their cannibalism allowed them to absorb some of their attributes, such as power which can relate back to aggression cannibalism.
Although disease and religion have greatly diminished the practice, it continues to be practiced worldwide. Criminal cannibalism has become the concern of the future.
Another reason why human would start to eat another human could be closure. For example, if you get stuck in a place with no way out for five years with no food but there are hundred other humans with you, at some point one will go insane and start talking about eating one and another and it would eventually happen. In horror movies they take it to the imaginary world of what it could be like if a certain scenario was to happen.
It is widely “frowned up” to eat people, but this social norm was violated due to the circumstances and need for survival. It is even a worse violation that the survivors were eating the meat that belonged to the bodies of their friends. The survivors also ate non-meat portions of the bodies, which I feel violates social norms even further than eating just the meat. Jeffrey Lincoln Dahmer also known as The Milwaukee Cannibal and The Milwaukee Monster was born May 21st, 1960 to his parents Joyce Annette and Lionel Herbert Dahmer. When Dahmer was six years old he had minor hernia surgery that afterwards changes in his behavior were reported. He went from a happy young boy to increasingly insecure and a loss in self-confidence, these changes seemed to coincide with the birth of his younger brother David Dahmer who was born seven years after him. At age eight Jeffrey and his family moved to Bath Ohio due to his father’s career as an analytical chemist. The move seemed to deepen his already increasing odd behavior and seclusion from society. By age fourteen he started to have impulsions to murder and perform necrophilia, these impulsions were amplified again when his parents ’marriage fell apart and they divorced in 1977.

In McCarthy’s novel The Road, one of the main issues deals with cannibalism and the moral/ethic issues of survival. Though McCarthy depicts cannibalism negatively in this post-apocalyptic world, it is apparent that cannibalism is necessary for humans to survive when there is no real food to eat. Whether they know what’s actually good vs what is actually bad, they still have a reason to try and stay alive even though things are absolutely terrible around them. Staying alive, to carry the fire for the good of humanity. In a world where everything is just coming to an end, people resort to eating each other in order to stay alive. Where there are bad and good people, but what does it actually mean to be bad? Eating human beings or not helping those people in need of help?
Christopher McCandless, a young American who was found dead in summer of 1992 in wild land in Alaska, wrote in his diary about his moral struggle regarding killing a moose for survival. According to Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild, Chris had to abandon most of the meat since he lacked the knowledge of how to dismantle and preserve it (166-168). Not only did he have a moral dilemma to kill a moose, but also had a deep regret that a life he had taken was wasted because of his own fault. He then started recognizing what he ate as a precious gift from the nature and called it “Holy Food” (Krakauer 168). Exploring relationships between human beings and other animals arouses many difficult questions: Which animals are humans allowed to eat and which ones are not? To which extent can humans govern other animals? For what purposes and on which principles can we kill other animals? Above all, what does it mean for humans to eat other animals? The answer may lie in its context. Since meat-eating has been included and remained in almost every food culture in the world throughout history and is more likely to increase in the future due to the mass production of meat, there is a very small chance for vegetarianism to become a mainstream food choice and it will remain that way.
Driven by his sexual fantasies, Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most infamous examples of a hedonistic killer. Participating in cannibalism, Dahmer claims these acts were attempts at becoming closer to his victims.

Dahmer was a pretty normal, but very lonely kid. His loneliness followed him throughout the course of his life. Never having an intimate friendship or relationship, along with being consumed with confusion over his own sexuality eventually led him to become the household name he is today. From 1978 to 1991, Dahmer murdered 17 boys and men. Not only is he considered a murderer, but he committed (on several occasions) rape and dismemberment. After his later murders, he was found guilty of necrophilia, cannibalism, and permanent preservation of body parts. He is arguably the most well known, gruesome, and intriguing criminal in American history.
During Dahmer’s psychiatric evaluation, Dr. Wahlstrom concluded, “Jeffrey was suffering from a mental illness never cured for” (FBI 1992). This leads me to perceive that Dahmer must have been displaying psychotic traits that went unnoticed and undocumented during his early lifetime. I can only speculate that this uncured mental illness lead Dahmer to develop and refine his inability to empathize with society; which in turn, lead him to engage in cruelty without mentally comprehending the victim’s suffering. Although the causes for psychopathy are unclear, some suggest that psychogenic aspects can outline abnormalities which may be present in psychopaths (Schmalleger 2014). When looking at Dahmer’s distant relationship with his parents early on in his childhood, I became conscious of the fact the lack of affection from his parents which may have lead him to develop twisted views on how one should display affection to others, thus prompting him to show psychotic behavior later on in life (The profile of Jeffrey Dahmer 1996). He was a pretty happy child overall until he had to have a minor surgery to correct a double hernia when he was 6 years old. The surgery seemed to affect him. Dahmer’s father was very consumed in his own things and his mother also suffered with severe psychological problems. As his mother’s disease got worse the conflicts within his family escalated. He felt guilty of her sickness and thought that he was the main cause of all the problems in the family. In her more gruesome study of organ theft in impoverished communities, Scheper-Hughes similarly demands that consumers understand the implications of “neo-cannibalism” on an international scale. Rejecting the idea of impoverished peoples as “uneducated and gullible informants,” Scheper-Hughes questions the meaning of doctors, organ brokers and prestigious anthropologists denying people voice about body-snatching (35, 39). Her research proves that “eviscerated bodies” do appear in allies and morgues, and verifies the accounts of poor peoples denied as mere “inventions” by authorities (36, 38).

Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality."(Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just get used to it? This reaction should say something about the most important moments in the code, which was programmed in the human psyche. Realization the necessity of refraining from meat is especially difficult because people consume it for a long time, and in addition, there is a certain attitude to the meat as to the product that is useful, nourishing and even prestigious. On the other hand, the constant consumption of meat has made the vast majority of people completely emotionless towards it. However, there must be some real and strong reasons for refusal of consumption of meat and as I noticed they were always completely different. So, even though vegetarianism has evolved drastically over time, some of its current forms have come back full circle to resemble that of its roots, when vegetarianism was an ethical-philosophical choice, not merely a matter of personal health.
Is it morally permissible to eat meat? Much argument has arisen in the current society on whether it is morally permissible to eat meat. Many virtuous fruitarians and the other meat eating societies have been arguing about the ethics of eating meat (which results from killing animals). The important part of the dispute is based on the animal welfare, nutrition value from meat, convenience, and affordability of meat-based foods compared to vegetable-based foods and other factors like environmental moral code, culture, and religion. All these points are important in justifying whether humans are morally right when choosing to eat meat. This paper will argue that it is morally impermissible to eat meat by focusing on the treatment of animals, the environmental argument, animal rights, pain, morals, religion, and the law.
