How to Prevent Illegal Immigration in Arizona
About a half of all illegal border crossings into the United States, occur along the Arizona-Mexico border (Fairus.org n.p). The illegal migration problem impacts Arizona State. The undocumented migrant population accounts for more than 6% of the state’s total population (Fairus.org n.p). Undocumented migrant population in Arizona is increasing at alarming rates, and there is need to keep the number of illegal immigrants in check for the welfare of the state.
The Problem
The illegal immigrants that make their way into Arizona put pressure on economic resources and contribute immensely to the increase in crime rates (Fairus.org n.p). The problem of illegal immigration in Arizona needs to be prevented because immigrants increase the occurrence of crimes such as drug trafficking and human smuggling. Also, the problem should be prevented because Arizona’s economic resources are spent in catering for the education, incarceration, and medical cost of the undocumented migrant population (Chen n.p). These are resources that can be diverted to catering for the needs of legal residents of Arizona.
Causes of Illegal Migration
Illegal immigrants cross into the United States through the Arizona-Mexico border to escape poverty and unemployment. Poverty and unemployment cause the immigrants to engage in crimes such as human smuggling and drug trafficking to eke a living.

Solutions to the Problem
Tentatively, the problem of illegal migration in Arizona can be solved by making some policies with the Mexican government whereby the government becomes directly responsible for every illegal immigrant.

Also, charging immigrants without proper documentation is a step in the right direction. Checks should be run on individuals who are reasonably suspected to have illegally immigrated into the country. Law enforcement officers should verify the immigration status of suspected individuals with federal authorities to get more information. People who are found to be in the country illegally, they are put under the custody of federal immigration authorities. Arrested individuals can be individually charged and arrangements made for their deportation. The various solutions to the problem of illegal immigration in Arizona should be applied together and more effective ones retained.
