Many people can say they have been in accidents but not many can say they have lived to tell the story. My father is one didn’t live to tell his story, my father worked three jobs at the age of 19.One day he was coming home at one A.M after his nine hour shift. It was a cold, muggy, and rainy night. Driving by he could only see subtle headlights flashing lights. We lived in rural Virginia, so it’s not many street lights along the road. He had been working all day and fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the road into the woods. My father got his license in 1997, when the GDL system was not yet implemented in every state. So my father’s ignorance of the dangers of driving while sleepy, is one of the many examples of why the GDL system was put in place to help save lives. The effects of the GDL system can save families, young teens and memories. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury and death among US teenagers, and teen drivers have crash rates higher than any other age group (Mayhew 683).Teen driver crashes also cause serious injuries and fatalities to other occupants: approximately 30% of fatal crashes that involve a teen driver lead to death or serious …show more content…

Will you prepare them for the dangers of the road, and enroll them in driving simulations so you can ensure they are prepares, or will you be a parent who falls victim to ignorance. I will ensure my child is properly trained for all dangers of the road, I will be cautious to the sign s of possible driving distractions such as excessive phone use or inability to focus in school. The state bureaucracies aren’t the only way to promote safety it starts at home. Graduated driver licensing system is one step in a larger process of preventing accidents among our teens. Although it will take time for teens to become fully aware of the importance of driving, Regulating driving laws will help keep teens
