Waiting, begging, persuading are just a few of the elements I used before concert week. I bought tickets for two concerts that were within two days of each other! From Columbus on Tuesday to Cleveland on Friday, what else could I ask for? Many adventures ensued from this week. However, there were also some unexpected adventures as well. It all started in October of 2014, when I heard that my favorite boy band would be performing at the Ohio Stadium in August. Of course, I went straight to my mom and started to beg for her to buy the tickets for me. After a while she finally gave in and said that she would buy them for me. As we got back into my sister car we pulled out of our parking spot to only be stuck in traffic. We sat in the parking garage with stand still traffic for almost an hour and a half. The traffic finally started to move, a Cadillac to my left, and a mini-van to my right that was not very happy that I pulled out in front of him. Oh well, it was my turn to go! I sat in that spot for another fifteen minutes. Finally, we started to move at a steady pace, then we saw the city lights outside of the never-ending parking garage. I hurried and called mom to get us home, because I have been lost that late before in the exact same area. My mom was not very happy, it was almost time for her to go to bed. As I drove my sister started nodding off in the passenger seat! We were so close to almost being home, then as we get to the 270 exit, it was closed for road construction! I started to panic, my mom heard me and woke up my dad to give us directions. As I listened and followed hos directions I finally saw New Albany! I told my parents that I would see them soon and hung up the phone. With my sister sound asleep I was left alone in the car with my thoughts of how the night had played out. On Monday March 25, some members of the baseball team, my girlfriend, and I traveled to Murray State University to watch a concert performed by Nelly and the St. Lunatics. It was a terrible night to go anywhere because it was raining and storming the whole way, but there was nothing that was going to stop us from going to the concert. We where all so hyped up about it and couldn’t wait to head out. My brother, who attends Murray State, had gotten us excellent seats about seventy-five feet away from the stage.
A couple of months ago, I went to a concert up in Denver. The band that played was called dada. They are a three-man pop rock band that have been playing since their first album was released in 1992. The band has a small following, but the amphitheater still was still quite full by the time the band started playing. Before this concert, I had been to a couple others in the past with bands of a similar type playing in a similar setting to that of the amphitheater I found myself in a couple of months ago. After going to the dada concert, I noticed there was an interesting pattern of where different people sat or stood at these concerts. This pattern divided people up by their social rank, age, and class. There were three different areas to this pattern: the people standing in the front at the stage, the people standing in the middle of the theater, and the people sitting in the back.
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. The night was young times were crazy and it was only the beginning of my senior year. It was still warm out and it still felt like summer; we didn’t know that we could have this much fun in one night, but we knew we were going to have fun no matter what. My first concert had to be one of the best nights of my life and one of my most favorite nights of my life during my senior year. For my concert write up, I attended the UCR Chamber Singers Valentine's concert on February 9th at the Culver Center of the Arts in downtown Riverside. It was a mix of ensemble pieces, solos, duos, and trios. The setting for the performance was a beautifully lit spot in the center surrounded by art. The audience seats were set up close to the performance area, in about 5 or so rows surrounding the front half of the 'stage'. By the time the performance started, it was nearly full, seemingly diverse, and made up of all ages. Certain members of the audience were very responsive to each performance and it was very easy to tell who was engaged and enjoying the show. On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
The day had finally come, the day Brooklynn, and I would meet our idol. Brooklynn’s parents picked me up around 12:00, and we were off! Our concert was at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. It started to seemed like it was taking so long to get there. Traffic was horrific, and it seemed like we were always making little pit stops. There was a car crash, so all off the traffic was backed up. We, our usual selves, became very antsy. We started to wave at every car that passed us. That’s when we met Julia. Julia looked like our age, and Brooklynn and I started talking to her out of the window. She also was going to the Justin Bieber concert. I sort of felt bad, because her seats were at the very top of the stadium. I’m sure it was hard for her too see.
It was Tuesday and the day was draining away. I wanted to go buy new hair dye, but I knew it was too late. Careless, I got money from my piggy bank and asked my little sister Natalie to come along. I usually go out by myself but I decided to take her to feel more safe. Since my parents were not home yet I had to make this trip quick, so we took the bus.
For the first concert report, I have decided to attend the Divan Consort performance. As I entered the Meng Concert Hall, I noticed that the whole building has a round shaped theme. The sides of the walls are shaped into cones and the seats are set up along the same design, which is circumnavigated around the stage. Above the stage is another few rows of seats that may include vocal performers. Also, the venue appears to be extremely wide and high.
This field work of attending a jazz show has really opened my eyes to the level of musicianship and talent that is out there. These performers were master of their craft and decaited their life to the pursuit of this music. The jazz musicians have the goal of not just entertaining but preserving one culture. The rules, tradiontions and cultures that surround the world of jazz are just as important as the music. This experience has taught me to respect jazz musicians and has made me personally get back in the study of jazz piano.
The day started off pretty normal, well, besides the fact that we had all stayed in a house with nothing but an old Nintendo system and a couple of lawn chairs. We went to breakfast at Denny's, after which we made our way to Denver, the site of the day's big event. On our way to my cousin's apartment, we drove by the multi million-dollar complex. It had a huge billboard that said "Summer Sanitarium." To my surprise, I kind of got a nervous feeling. Why? I do not know. We proceeded to my cousin's apartment where the entire group conglomerated in preparation of the concert. We had a large group of people that consisted of Carter, Josh, Seth, Sam and his two brothers, Tim, Kim, Eric, my brother me and. While waiting for the right time to arrive at the event, we had the radio turned to a station that was playing Metallica in honor of their presence in Denver.
The months preceding and following this specific family trip, were filled with various milestones which prohibited much bonding: my mother’s diagnosis of lung cancer, my older sister’s wedding day, and my senior year preparation. If it wasn’t for our last hurrah, we may not have been able to successfully sit the needed amount of time aside for family bonding. My sister and I, avid Twenty One Pilots fans, wanted to hit up one of their shows in Colorado. Partnered with a handful of other thoroughly enjoyable bands, Twenty One Pilots were guaranteed to put on the concert of the year.
I had never really been to a big concert that had a well-known band. A couple of weeks before the concert I got some information about it, but really didn't think much of it. I talked with some friends about the band and we all casually decided to go get tickets for it. Little did I know what an absolutely spectacular time I would have.
There is an event that I just can describe as one of the most unique and memorable in my life: attending my first concert. After years of listening to Ron Pope’s music, watching his YouTube channel, and following all of his social media accounts, the satisfaction of seeing someone whose music has been the soundtrack to my life for so long was unreal. There were moments that I had to internally remind myself that this is, in fact, happening in real life. One day in the midst of summer, my friend Mike and I got off from a hard day of work and were on our way to the mall. While at work we had planned to meet a few people there. I was going to be seeing my friend Jessica who I had not talked to in years. Before leaving, we stopped off at our houses, took showers, and got ready. As I anxiously waited on the stairs for his car to roll into the driveway, my mom said, “Be careful and do not drive like an idiot.” I obviously said alright and she was on her way. Minutes later I see my friend Mike pull into the driveway. I slipped my feet into my shoes and got in his car. We were almost to the mall when his phone rang. He picked it up and said, “Hello?” It was my mom and she wanted to speak to me. Upon putting the phone to my ear she told me that I had to come home right away. She said that my dad had just gotten into a car crash and that I had to come home and watch my sister. I did not know how to break the news to Mike, that what we were anticipating all day would not happen. He was upset, but he understood what was going on. I came home thinking it was the same old same old; he had gotten hit by a drunk driver, the car got totaled, and he was fine.
