Of Mice and Men is an excellent movie produced in 1940.The music throughout this production was conducted by Mark Isham. Isham produced very emotional supporting tracks for Of Mice and Men, which helps the audience connect to the message of the movie. Two scenes become really prominent and create feeling of emotional involvement with the characters when the addition of music from Isham is added. Firstly, near the closure of the movie when George and the other guys find Curly’s wife dead in the barn. They soon all come to the conclusion that it must have been Lenny who killed her, so they race off to find him and kill him. George cares for Lenny, and also races off to find Lenny before Curly and the goons do. Secondly, the very sad, emotional ending when George is telling Lenny …show more content…

Curly’s intentions is to shoot Lenny for killing his wife, but George does not want this for Lenny, so George races off to find Lenny. The musical accompaniment during this scene has a very allegro tempo with a mezzo forte dynamic. Also, throughout the scene, it starts with a crescendo and ends with a decrescendo into no music, which really helps establish importance. The music’s quick tempo really helps the audience feel that urgency inside of George. If George does not make it to Lenny first, then George as well as the audience knows what is coming. In this scene the music was mainly added just to move scenes along. For example, in Of Mice and Men they find Curly’s wife dead and immediately go after Lenny, then the music is played, and the next major scene is started. The harmony during this scene contains many consonant chords which helps the speedy scene seem more succinct. The melody of Of Mice and Men has many polyphonic elements, such as strings and piano.
